JC Santos Finally Talks About His Diary ng Panget Acting Stint

Yup, he was in that movie!
ART Clare Magno

Remember when we told you that Till I Met You star JC Santos was actually in James Reid and Nadine Lustre's first movie together, Diary ng Panget? We got so excited about it, too, because it felt like destiny for him to be there and to be able to work with JaDine now.

So when we shot him for this month's feature, we excitedly asked JC to talk about his stint on the show—both as the 2nd assistant director and as one of the actors.

"Kababalik ko lang noon galing New York. Meron akong mga gigs everywhere. Pagbalik ko, wala pa akong work. So si Direk Andoy [Ranay], tinanong n'ya ako kung pwede akong mag-second assistant director," he tells us while laughing, almost embarrassed that we found the photos and videos. "Wala akong alam kung paano gawin 'yun. Pero para ka lang daw palang stage manager sa theater, iha-handle mo lang 'yung mga tao. Kinausap ko na 'yung assistant director, tapos ikaw yung magdi-direct ng talents, ng crowd, 'yung moving background.

"First time ko ma-experience 'yun kasi first time kong mag-direct ng crowd. Ang dami mong kakausapin, so takbo ka ng takboHindi ko masyadong magamit 'yung acting noon. Hindi ko masyadong inisip 'yun kasi more of director ako that time. School pa 'yung setting, so hanggang sa pinakalikod ng university dini-direct ko 'yung mga tao."

He then tell us that that was actually his first directing job for a film. "I think it's going to be my last," he says. "Hindi naman sa hindi ko s'ya gusto, pero I think I'm not yet ready."

And regarding that photoshoot scene he did with the two oncam, here's what he has to say about it.

"Oo, nag-extra ako noon kasi wala silang talents that time. Kailangan kong sumali, so doon ko first na-meet si James at si Nadine. Hindi ko sila naka-work mismo kasi 'yung assistant director lang ang kausap nila."

Curious how it turned out? Watch the scene below!

PRIMO.

First. Pixie dust and paper cuts – these are the first things Wendy knew about Peter Pan. Aurora first met Prince Philip when she was sixteen. Learning how to ride a bike was also a first while I was growing up, but you are probably the first of too many. The first collection of dust and stars; maybe Luna will try to ask, who was your first? I might answer and tell her that it was you.

The first of too many stars in the sky. You are the first of too many fallen leaves during fall – and you will be the most anticipated snowflake as winter comes. A dark path that you can’t see without any light, hence, you were once the moon and there are the stars that shine so bright at night. Are we too early? Or we just really want to be ahead of time? Even in a glimpse, I would like to see the two of us connect as if we can reach the sky. There are other parts of the heavens you have never saw and other oceans you haven’t laid your feet onto – but the constellations will always wait for you. Close your eyes, love, close your eyes. Start counting backward: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Count backward until you see the twinkling lights that will guide you to the right path. To the right satellite; to the right person. A first.

There are many firsts – first love, first heartbreak, first sport you played, the first thing you do in the morning, the first thing you remember about the person in front of you. There are a lot. It’s actually up to us how we will consider something as a first. So, Primo, you are already a first of too many.
