The new generation of OPM performers have quite a few promising names in the roster, one of which is Jayda Avanzado. Jayda may only be 17 years old, but it's easy to assume that she's much older than she really is as soon as she starts belting out high notes. As the daughter of OPM icons, it's not far off to expect Jayda to follow after the footsteps of her parents. Even so, Jayda's journey in the local music industry is pretty much the result of her own hard work and talent. Consider yourself a fan? Here are a few things to know about the young singer and songwriter:
Jayda is the daughter of musicians.
Jayda is the daughter of Filipino music icons Jessa Zaragoza and Dingdong Avanzado. As the only child, Jayda has a formed a tight relationship with both her parents. Dingdong and Jessa have even described her as mabait and masunurin, and Jayda is also very open to her parents about her personal life. During quarantine, their family bonding would include eating together and watching Netflix.
Her name is inspired by Jada Pinkett Smith.
Although her real name is Janelle Amanda L. Avanzado, no one really calls her by her first name "Janelle" or "Amanda" because her parents and friends would *always* refer to her as "Jayda." Her mom explained during a mukbang Q&A on Jayda's YouTube channel that she wanted to name her future child “Jayda” after seeing Jada Pinkett Smith’s name in the credits of a movie they were watching.
She can sing and play instruments.
Jayda's ultimate passion is music and it's no surprise that she inherited the ~musical~ genes from her celebrity parents. She has power vocals and can also play various instruments, like the piano and guitar. You can catch her covers of songs on her YouTube channal Just Jayda. And if you're curious about her taste in music, one of her favorite musical acts would be One Direction.
Even at such a young age, Jayda would also write her own lyrics and produce her own songs. She's already come out with several songs, including "Text", "Coffee", and "Happy for You".
She was an opening act for a concert with international musicians.
At the young age of 13, Jayda has already performed as an opening act for the #3LOGYInManila concert in Manila back in 2016. The concert featured international musical sensations as the front acts, including British pop rock band The Vamps, and American bands Before You Exit and The Tide.
Just two years ago, Jayda got to live the ultimate Directioner life when she opened for Niall Horan's Flicker Tour in Manila.
She likes to play video games and read books.
Aside from singing and making music, Jayda is also fond of playing video games and would even do so as a form of bonding with her dad. In an interview, Jayda said that the games she enjoys playing the most are Love Is Dead and Final Fantasy.
Like many of us, Jayda is also a bookworm. She's a huge fan of Young Adult (YA) novels and a few of her favorite books are the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling (especially the third book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, and The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins.
She wants to take up Music Production in college.
Jayda has been homeschooled during her senior high school days. But even though she's ultra focused on academics at the moment, Jayda hopes to pursue music full-time in the future. In a Q&A video, Jayda mentioned that if she were to go to college, she would love to take up Music Production as her course.
She’s a self-confessed hopeless romantic.
If you've ever assumed that Jayda is the type to be senti when it comes to love and relationships, then she will most likely agree with you. Jayda said herself that she likes to day dream and regularly think of the future. Think you're the only one who enjoys hearing a good hugot line? You might just get along with the 17-year-old. Jayda is also a self-confessed hugotera and you would often hear her pulling off a random hugot in the middle of a regular conversation (even in front of her parents), lol.
