Popular Japanese horror franchise Ju-On, better known as The Grudge, is getting a Netflix series—and we can’t wait to have a hauntingly good scare!

The streaming site, in collaboration with NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan, released the trailer to Ju-on: Origins (Ju-on: Noroi no Ie) a few days ago. As per Netflix, the first-look synopsis reads: “The J-Horror classic franchise Ju-On was actually based on real events that occurred over four decades—and the truth is even more terrifying. Can the people haunted by this house escape from its curse? And what kind of grim incident occurred in this cursed house in the past?”

The series will follow a rookie actress named Haruka Honjo who hires Odajima, a paranormal investigator, after hearing disturbing footsteps in her apartment.

Yoshiyoshi Arakawa, Yuina Kuroshima, and Ririka are set to star in the show, which will be released on Netflix on July 3, 2020. It's reported to have six episodes for its first season.

Created by Takashi Shimizu, the Ju-On franchise currently has 13 films to date, nine of which originate from Japan, and the other four from America. Its lore explains that when a person dies with a deep feeling of unresolved anger, a curse is unleashed at the location of their death, which usually means that anyone who encounters the said curse will die as well.
