Although Janella Salvador and Jane De Leon play convincing rivals in Mars Ravelo’s Darna, they’re actually the best of friends IRL. ICYDK, they actually grew closer to each other thanks to their mutual love for food!

“Lagi kasi ako sa set gutom,” Janella revealed in a recent Magandang Buhay guesting with Jane. “Sabi ko, ‘Parang gusto ko ng kwek-kwek. Nagulat ako, parang the next day ata, bumili [si Jane] ng ingredients. Tapos sabi niya sa’kin, “Magluluto ako ng kwek-kwek ah. Punta ka sa kuwarto.’”
Jane then explained that they didn’t get the opportunity to dine out at the time because they were both under lock-in taping. That said, the pair just decided to bond with each other by watching movies and cooking together.
“First lock-in, nag-message na kami sa isa’t isa. And ‘pag nagkita kami, parang [sinasabi namin], ‘Uy, mag-bonding naman tayo.’ Kasi matagal kaming magsasama eh,” Janella shared.
“Pumupunta ako sa room niya minsan, nanonood kami ng mga movies,” she explained. Jane added, “Tatlong movies sa isang [upuan], tapos puro horror.” Awww, cute!
Jane also added that they initially didn’t expect to get along with each other, and even more so gain a loyal legion of fans. “Hindi talaga namin in-expect na may chemistry kami. Kaya Josh, sorry talaga,” she said half-jokingly, referring to her latest on-screen partner Joshua Garcia. “Sobrang unexpected talaga kasi bihira lang magka-ganoon na chemistry ‘pag dating sa mga babae.”
It also didn’t help that both Jane and Janella were introverts who found it challenging to approach each other at first. “Feeling ko nga may walls na ako. Pero si Jane, mas mataas pa ‘yung walls niya. Mas mahirap siya mag-share feeling ko,” Janella shared.
Jane responded, “Ang hirap lang maging introvert na tao kasi siyempre noong una, hindi namin alam kung saan kami [lulugar]. Parang mangangapa kami [kung] ano gagawin.” Agreeing with Jane, Janella shared the same sentiments: “As a fellow introvert, iisipin mo baka wala rin ‘to sa mood. So hindi ka rin agad-agad makikipag-close.”
