Here's something we don't see very often: Jo Kwang Jin, the author of popular Korean webtoon Itaewon Class, is also the scriptwriter for the K-drama adaptation starring Park Seo Joon!

In Itaewon Class, Seo Joon stars as a determined ~underdog~ who goes against a big food conglomerate with the help of his "band of determined misfits." The drama is produced by director Kim Sung Yoon, who also worked on the hit drama Love In The Moonlight.

In an interview, Kwang Jin shared that when the director came to see him about being the scriptwriter for the project, he initially refused. Good thing he changed his mind! Kwang Jin said: "Itaewon Class is a story with the characters at the focal point, and I was the person who understood the characters best as the original author. Furthermore, I felt that parts were lacking in the original and that it was an opportunity to remedy it on my own through the drama."

He added that he made adjustments to the story after consulting the show's cast and staff, saying, "There are many stories I couldn't tell in the original. For the people who have seen the webtoon, I think there will be fun in watching the deeper and more fleshed out inner thoughts of the characters as well as their chemistry with each other."
