Quarantine life has pretty much pushed my family and I to be overnight kitchen experts and K-drama marathoners. Whereas my workmate Nicole's household is hooked on Crash Landing On You, mine can't get over Itaewon Class. So for our second time to watch Park Seo Joon's latest series, we can't help but zero in on the cast's outfits and even the tiniest details we missed the first time around.
What we didn't expect to discover though is the coolest connection between Itaewon Class and another K-drama that's close to our hearts: Hotel del Luna! In fact, my eagle-eyed sister first noticed it. Within the first few minutes of Episode 12, you'll see Park Sae-ro-yi and his staff busy tending to Dan Bam's customers. Sae-ro-yi asks Choi Seung-kwon, "This is the last [soju]. Why isn't the fridge stocked?"
Did you see it? No?
Well, look closer and check out the boxes above their fridge. Don't they look so familiar? Like...boxes of Jang Man Wol's special champagne? Of course, my sister and I had to double check!
Lo and behold, courtesy of Hotel del Luna's third episode:
Skip to the 1:03:53 mark and you'll see the hotel's receptionist, Ji Hyun-joong, handing over to Gu Chan-sung a box containing Man Wol's favorite champagne. The wooden box is marked with her special symbol: a full moon cut in half by a sword. And these exact same boxes were most recently found inside Dan Bam! Coincidence? Let's just say it's highly possible that Jang Man Wol and Park Sae-ro-yi struck a business deal! LOL! (Fine, a more realistic theory is that they hired the same set designer who recycled previously-used props from Hotel del Luna! But allow us to live in a fantasy, will you?)
But then again, if you're really itching for a true Itaewon Class and Hotel del Luna crossover, no need to fret! The lead stars of both series are actually teaming up for a new movie, so all hope is not lost: IU and Park Seo Joon will soon start filming for their upcoming movie titled Dream, as confirmed by IU herself in a radio show guesting. We can't wait!
