They say that behind every great man is a great woman, and Suits has (at least) three awesome ladies: overachieving paralegal Rachel Zane (Meghan Markle), queen bee assistant Donna Paulsen (Sarah Rafferty), and head partner Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres).
Here's to Rachel for her tenacity and sass. Remember the scene in the pilot when she dressed down Mike Ross with the Just because you’re an associate and I’m a paralegal doesn’t mean you’re above me and I’m automatically attracted to you so stop hitting on me speech? Girl has style and substance in more ways than one.
Here's to Donna for being one of the best gingers ever, for being intensely loyal—almost to a fault—and for showing how assistants can run the world. For being right most of the time and admitting it when she's wrong (which is like once every season). For going above and beyond her job description: she's Harvey Specter's confidante, people reader, and moral compass—his rock.
Here's to Donna and Rachel for showing one of the best female friendships on TV: friends who support each other, friends who don’t hesitate to give each other tough love when needed, and friends who fight over things that actually matter.
Here's to Jessica for keeping Harvey, everyone in the office, and everyone who tries to take over her kingdom, in line. For commanding respect without terrorizing people—most of the time. For seeing the potential in people and giving them room to grow and make mistakes. For power dressing like a boss. For being such a good lawyer that she makes even her most questionable choices seem perfectly right and fair.
