It only took a day after its November 19 release for the South Korean horror series Hellbound to claim its spot as Netflix’s most-watched TV show, says a report from Flixpatrol analytics. This means, Hellbound has not only dethroned Squid Game as the number one most-watched series, but also surpasses the latter in terms of Netflix global rankings that took eight days for the show to achieve. Wow.
Directed by Yeong-Sang Ho (Train to Busan), Hellbound is a supernatural series that centers on a world where angels and demons roam freely. This alternate reality of Earth follows humans who become subjects to the mercy of "messengers" that suddenly appear before them to deliver prophecies (a.k.a. the exact date and time they'll die) and unearthly creatures who execute the prophecy and drag them to Hell.Â
Actor Yoo Ah In is cast as the religious leader of the sect New Truth that emerges amidst the chaos in this dystopian world. He stars alongside Park Jung Min, a critic of the said religious cult, and Kim Hyun Joo, a lawyer trying to make sense of the supernatural phenomenon.

Positive reviews have flooded the six-episode drama, as it tackles serious topics such as life and death, sin and punishment, the discerning knowledge of god, and human weaknesses. It also draws a comparison to the recent hit Squid Game, given the two show's similar depiction of violent ends and bloody death fests.
Hellbound scored 100% on the entertainment site Rotten Tomatoes.
