Harry Potter fans, the magic’s not over yet. If things go well over at HBO, it looks like the global Wizarding franchise will be getting a live-action TV series.

An exclusive source tells The Hollywood Reporter that executives At HBO Max and Warner Bros. are currently in early talks to develop a show based on the books by J.K. Rowling. THR writes, “Broad ideas have been discussed as part of the early-stage exploratory meetings.”

Similarly, Variety’s own sources disclosed that while the project has no plot yet, nor writers or actors attached to it, multiple conversations have already taken place with potential writers for the possible show.

In light of the news, Warner Bros. and HBO Max clarified in a statement that no official deals have been made so far. “There are no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform,” they told THR.

Harry Potter’s original eight films collectively garnered $7.7 billion worldwide, making it the third highest grossing film series just below the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars. Since then, the franchise has spawned the ongoing Fantastic Beasts movies and the stage play Harry Potter and The Cursed Child. With the undeniable success brought on by the HP brand alone, it comes as no surprise to hear that Warner Bros—who shares the book's rights alongside J.K. Rowling—would want to further expand the beloved Wizarding World as much as they can.

Whether the TV series pushes through or not, Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has long resigned himself to future reboots or versions of the story that shot his career to global stardom. "I’m sure there will be some other version of it; I know I’m not the last Harry Potter I’m gonna see in my lifetime—we’ve already got a few more," he told IGN in a 2019 interview.

"It will be interesting to see how long those films stay… it feels like there’s a sacredness around them at the moment, but that’ll go, the shine will wear off at some point… It’ll be interesting if they reboot them and just do the films again or do a series; I’m fascinated to watch."
