Going to college is like entering a ~whole new world~ for most students. We find ourselves lost in a new campus, surrounded by a diverse set of people, and, in a way, immersed in a new culture. That was the case for content creator and fiction writer Gwy Saludes.

ICYDK, Gwy went to University of Sto. Tomas (UST) for senior high school and is currently attending Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) as a sophomore Legal Management student. From España to Katipunan, there's certainly a noticeable difference. "Sobrang iba ng mundo ko," Gwy shares in her most recent Mukbang Q&A when she was asked about the adjustments she's had to make when she entered ADMU.

"Bigger campus, different language"

Gwy further elaborates that transferring between two totally different campuses was a bit of a culture shock. "Sobrang iba ng environment, ng mga tao, ng language. Tsaka mas malaki rin yung campus so parang masyado siyang malaking mundo sa akin.

"As someone from UST hindi ako sanay na wala akong ka-bardagulan, wala akong kausap using my usual language. Yung humor ko, galing siya sa UST, so kailangan ko siya i-adjust sa Ateneo.

Adapting to a new campus culture, however, is necessary. "Pero nasanay na rin naman ako na, of course, mag-adapt sa environment kasi kailangan mo talaga. Kailangan mong masanay para hindi ka mukhang nawalala, at tsaka para magkaroon ka ng friends."

Making friends in college

On the upside, college is new for basically every student. So you're technically not alone in feeling like everything is so new. "First day pa lang siyempre may friends ka na, kasi the thing with college [is], if you don't approach them, they will approach you. For me, kapag bago pa lang tayo [nagkakilala] tapos nakita kitang mag-isa lang, of course lalapitan kita. Ganun siguro rin mararamdaman ng ibang tao kapag mag-isa ka lang."

It might be a little different now that your campus is ~virtual~, but it wouldn't hurt to try sending a PM to your classmates as you try to navigate online learning together.
