Working in showbiz always entails having to deal with bashers and negative comments. Fortunately, numerous stars know how to rise above the hate, even younger ones like Francine Diaz.
In a recent media conference for iWantTFC’s Bola Bola, the 18-year-old actress revealed that she was the target of many body-shaming comments when she rose to fame for her Kadenang Ginto role in 2020.
“Noong nagka-pandemic, ‘yun talaga yung may mga nagsasabi na ang siopao ng face ko. ‘Yung pagkapayat ko parang daw malnourished, kumakain pa raw ba ako,” Francine recounted, likening herself to her character Thea. In case you haven’t watched the Bola Bola trailer, Thea’s the young female lead who gets shunned by other characters due to her weight.
While Francine admits that these comments bothered her at first, she has since learned to channel the negativity into her work. “Every time na naririnig ko 'yun sa utak ko, mas nagwo-workout ako. And I think naging good naman yung resulta niya kasi I can say na nagiging better version ng sarili ko ever since ginawa kong motivation yung mga ganoong comments nila about me,” she said.
“Kasi parang 'pag mas in-absorb ko ‘to, wala e, ako yung talo. So I have to fight. I don’t have to fight them, pero I have to fight for myself,” she added, reminding everyone to be mindful of their verbal comments. What a classy response!
Likewise, she also encouraged victims of body-shaming to keep loving themselves regardless of what other people may say.
“Kapag nagulo na yung isip mo kasi diyan ka na magkakaroon ng doubt sa self mo and diyan nawawala yung self-love. So I say just focus on yourself and huwag mong pakinggan ang mga hindi magagandang sinasabi ng tao sa inyo,” she concluded.
We couldn’t have said it better, Francine!
