On August 8, former Manila mayor Alfredo Lim passed away after suffering from complications due to COVID-19. He was 90 years old. Lim served the public for 50 years—12 years as Manila mayor from 1992 to 1998, and re-elected once again from 2007 to 2013. In 2016, he lost his mayoral bid to former president Joseph Estrada and lost again in 2019 to Mayor Isko Moreno. Just in case you are not aware, he also served as a senator from 2004 to 2007.
In 1998, he joined the presidential election and lost to Estrada, but he was tapped as interior secretary later on. Prior to his run in politics, Lim joined the police force at the age of 22 and served the Integrated National Force for 30 years. He also became a superintendent of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) and director of Manila Police District (MPD) and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Aside from his previous achievements, Lim was also known for his “tough” reputation when it comes to criminals, hence his moniker “Dirty Harry.”
But despite everything, Lim is known for his funny and thoughtful tweets when he served as the mayor of Manila. He used to tweet announcements and class suspensions on his Twitter account @TheMayorLIM. If you've been following him on Twitter for a long time now, you'll know that he usually started his tweet with "O," and I don't know about you, but that was ~classic~.
If you haven't been on his Twitter page before, we'll list some of his tweets for a walk down memory lane.
