Some days, you just want to put on a film to help you unwind after a day full of online classes, something that's engaging enough to keep you interested but not too heavy on the heart. Before you spend a good deal of time browsing through endless options, we narrowed it down to six feel-good films so you won’t have to.
From light-hearted rom-coms to musicals, take your pick here (P.S. They're all on Netflix!).Â
Mamma Mia!
Starring: Amanda Seyfried, Meryl Streep, Dominic Cooper, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth
Sophie secretly invites three different guys her mom used to date, one of which could *potentially* be her father. Sounds complicated, but it’s actually not as dramatic as it seems (It’s actually based on ABBA songs). Nothing like a good musical with some throwback hits to take your mind off a long and busy day of online classes.
Work It
Starring: Sabrina Carpenter, Jordan Fisher, Liza Koshy
Wouldn’t you do whatever it took to accomplish your goals… even start a dance troupe despite being totally bad at dancing? Work It sees highschooler Quinn Ackerman start her own dance troupe from scratch just so her dream college would accept her. It’ll remind you of the Disney movies you used to watch back in high school (especially because it features Disney stars in its cast) with just the right amount of relatability to keep you engaged.
The Little Prince
Starring: Jeff Bridges, Rachel McAdams, Paul Rudd, Bud Cort, Marion Cotillard, Benicio del Toro, James Franco
Maybe an animated film is the right feel-good movie to help you unwind from a particularly stressful day, especially one based on the popular book by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The film is centered on the life of a mother and daughter who creates an ultra detailed life plan to get the daughter in a prestigious school. The storyline of the 1943 book is creatively intertwined with the film's own plot for a fresher take on the classic piece of literature.
Before Sunrise
Starring: Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy
Oh, to visit a beautiful city in Europe and meet a complete stranger who will listen to all your random thoughts and widen your perspective about life and love. One can only dream. If their conversations are a bit too complex to digest, you can always just admire the beauty of Vienna.
La La Land
Starring: Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling
Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are a tandem we never knew we needed again after they starred together in Crazy, Stupid, Love. La La Land’s story about chasing dreams and finding love is equal parts entertaining and emotional, but not ~too~ heavy to stress you out even further.
Ocean’s 8
Starring: Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Awkwafina, Helena Bonham-Carter, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson
If you're up for some action, try putting on this spin-off on the OG Ocean's series. Despite the fact that it features a large-scale heist, the film also shows that women can accomplish the same things men can do, featuring an ensemble cast of admirable women IRL.
