ICYMI, Donny Pangilinan just graduated from college last October! In a recent guesting on Magandang Buhay, the He’s Into Her leading man spilled the deets on graduating alongside his siblings and ~got candid~ about his struggles as a working student.
“During the pandemic, my sisters and I decided to pursue our diplomas together. I think it was actually something that we all wanted to do,” Donny recounted. “And I think my parents were the happiest because of it.”
Donny revealed that he had to bring his modules to work and join online meetings with his professors weekly to keep up with his college workload. “It’s a leadership course. It’s actually a Christian school from Washington, so I met with my professor every week. The essays…I mean [Belle would] see me doing it while I’m working and stuff sa lock-in. Kung may time man ako, ginagawa ko mga papers ko, modules and stuff,” he shared.
He even added that he’s thinking of pursuing further education: “And I feel like this is not the end! I wanna pursue more, I wanna learn more, and get more degrees. Hopefully a master's, let’s see.”
Still, Donny acknowledged that balancing school and showbiz was far from easy. Like many other working students, he also thought of giving up and prioritizing work instead. “Of course hindi madali. Ang daming times na parang ayoko na, sasabihan ko sina Daddy na, ‘Maybe I’ll just pursue it some other time or siguro hindi muna ngayon ‘yung tamang panahon,’” Donny confessed.
Fortunately, his sisters were there to motivate him when things got tough. He shared, “Pero whenever I see my siblings na sinu-submit nila and nagme-meet sila, and I know they’re also doing a lot of stuff, si Hannah and Ella. Parang we use each other as our own inspiration. Hinihila namin ang isa’t isa whenever we feel na ganoon, lacking ‘yung isa or behind ‘yung isa.”
That said, Donny has one piece of advice for fellow working students: Remember why you started and surround yourself with people who will support you. “When you look back, lahat ng sacrifice na ginawa niyo, sobrang worth it talaga. So keep pushing, kaya niyo ‘yan. Just put your resources and time also in those who will push you to do better and will cling you towards those goals na gusto niyong gawin,” he concluded.
We’re so proud of you, Donny!
