Need a break from your favorite K-dramas? Netflix has a plethora of documentaries that are not only informative and thought-provoking but also have the entertainment factor to keep you engaged.

The Social Dilemma

Did you know that your Google searches are curated based on your location and won’t really show all the possible results it’s meant to generate? There’s a lot more that happens on the world wide web as you mindlessly scroll through your feed. Every click you make and every content you consume are being tracked without you knowing it.

The Social Dilemma talks to ex-execs of big corps like Facebook, YouTube, and Google, to name a few, (yes, even the very person who invented the Facebook ‘Like’ button), about how users’ data are being used--and misused. There’s also a mini skit featuring a family of internet users to illustrate how algorithms are used to manipulate what regular people like us see on our feeds.

The Mind, Explained 

The Mind, Explained is a spinoff of the Netflix docuseries Explained by Vox Media. This one in particular deals with everything and anything related to our brains--from dreams, memories, and even anxiety. Do you ever wonder what goes on inside what is arguably one of the most powerful organs in the body?

Street Food Asia

Finally, may docuseries na rin para sa mga street food lovers. The first volume of this Netflix documentary focuses on Asian cuisine in the streets, particularly in Bangkok, Osaka, Seoul, Singapore, Delhi, Yogyakarta, Chiayi, Ho Chi Minh, and of course, our very own Cebu. Travel may not be allowed yet so this documentary will suffice for now.

Unsolved Mysteries

Unsolved crimes, UFOs, paranormal activity, conspiracy theories--if you're someone who genuinely enjoys delving into the mysteries of life then this docuseries might be your cup of tea. Unsolved Mysteries has been a long-standing documentary TV series in the US, but it was picked up for a reboot by Netflix in 2019. The show has actually helped solved a few real-life mysteries because of the attention it gave to cases that are othewise unheard of by the general public.

Taylor Swift went from being a teenage country singer to becoming a music icon for the younger generations. But getting to where she is now wasn't a walk in the park.
