These days, Gen Z stars have been rising to popularity faster than ever. Thanks in part to social media, it’s extremely easy to get word of the newest talents to grace the local showbiz scene. For instance, it’s only been four years since actress Criza Taa first joined showbiz, but she’s already making her mark in the industry. Undeniably talented and wise beyond her years, this 17-year-old star is certainly a face you won’t forget.

If you’re interested in joining her fan club, we’ll spare you the hassle of sifting through her old interviews and archived social media posts. Below, we’ve rounded up five fun facts you should know about Criza:

1. Criza is a proud lola’s girl.

Born on September 13, 2004, Criza spent most of her childhood with her late grandmother Wilma. While Criza never met her father, her mother had to stay in Pampanga to care for the rest of her siblings. Because of this, she would only get to see her mother and siblings during special occasions and holidays. Lola Wilma worked hard to single-handedly raise Criza, refurbishing plastic bottles and damaged umbrellas to gain a meager income. Criza usually got bullied at school for her family’s financial situation, but this only made Criza respect her grandmother’s sacrifices even more.

Panganay ako and lola’s girl ako, so kailangan ko mabigay yung mga pangangailangan nila. Hindi ako pwedeng pa-chill chill lang. Even [at] 14 years old, kailangan kong maging matatag, siyempre ako mag-aahon,” she said in a past interview from 2018.

During that same interview, Criza admitted that her biggest fear in life is to lose her Lola Wilma. Unfortunately, Criza’s grandmother passed away last November 2021, as revealed by Criza’s mournful Instagram post.

2. Criza joined showbiz through Pinoy Big Brother.

Criza initially wanted to be a flight attendant, but she decided to be an artista at 13 years old to financially support her family. Although she passed her first Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) audition, she didn’t get selected to be an official housemate during the Housemate Selection twist. She then got sent to Camp Star Hunt wherein she redeemed herself by befriending fellow campers and exerting extra effort into weekly tasks.

It wasn’t long before she got nominated to move into the PBB house with the moniker “Ang Apo of the Eye Ng Quezon City.” Despite gaining a steady fanbase online, Criza struggled to get along with fellow housemates like Seth Fedelin because her strong personality was typically misunderstood as sassiness and insensitivity. Consequently, Criza got evicted from the house only after three weeks, but her short PBB stint still served as her main entrypoint to local showbiz.

3. Criza is best known for her acting skills.

Following PBB, Criza appeared in hit drama series Kadenang Ginto alongside fellow teen actresses Andrea Brillantes and Francine Diaz. Only 15 years old at the time, Criza was lauded for her heartwarming rendition of Roxy, the daughter of the telserye’s main villain. She soon made her big screen debut in iWantTFC’s Wild Little Love as Dimples, then got cast to play Nair in He’s Into Her two years later. Her latter role quickly became a fan favorite among DonBelle fans, so she’s now returning to the show’s second season as a main character. Someday, she wishes to take on a mature kontrabida role and work with veteran actresses Maja Salvador, Dimples Romana, and Bea Alonzo

4. Criza can also sing and dance.

In a previous interview, Criza mentioned that she used to join dance contests as a child. Apart from that, Criza also showed off her singing and dancing skills when she first auditioned for ABS-CBN’s Star Hunt. We’ve only seen her perform in ASAP Natin ‘To with fellow castmates since then, so we’re crossing our fingers for a debut single or a solo performance someday!

5. Criza is a social media star.

If you’re already a loyal fan of Criza’s, then you’d already know that she’s gained quite the following on her social media accounts. Her Instagram currently has about 1.2 million followers, while her Twitter has nearly 250,000 followers. She also amassed over 700,000 followers on TikTok through her trendy lip syncs and dance snippets. Given her big online audience, it’s no wonder that she’s endorsed several big brands like Flormar, Shein, Keds, and Apartment 8 Clothing!
