Before Becoming a TV Personality, Christine Samson Was a Video Game Streamer
Christine Samson is only 21 years old, but the internet personality already has the kind of success story that exceeds everyone’s expectations. Despite being new to the entertainment industry, Christine has amassed an avid following on social media, with over 1.3 million followers on Instagram, over 360 thousand followers on Twitter, and 1.6 million followers on TikTok. But there’s more to Christine beyond her sudden internet fame. Read on to learn more about her:
She started out as a streamer.
Fresh out of college, Christine became a talent of Tier One Entertainment as a video game streamer and a mainstay host of Tier One's stream for their gamers called AMPLFY, together with other talents under the agency like Nami Onuma.
The 21-year-old started gaming only two years ago and got signed by Tier One after accompanying her best friend, Nami, to her audition. “I just tagged along with my bestfriend Nami and I wasn’t even auditioning. But then they asked me to audition and they got me after,” she tells Esquire Philippines in an interview.
Aside from hosting the esports stream with other talents, Christine is also a video game streamer for Tier One where she plays popular titles like Call of Duty: Mobile and Mobile Legends.
Tier One is an esports and gaming agency founded in 2017 by esports personality and top shoutcaster Tryke Gutierrez as well as local cosplay and esports star Alodia Gosiengfiao. Other talents signed under the agency include Alodia's sister Ashley Gosiengfiao, Wil Dasovich, Cong TV, Junnieboy Velasquez, the late Emman Nimedez, and Jeong "Rangchu" Hyeon-ho.
Christine first made appearances on Wil’s and Alodia’s vlogs.
Before rising to fame and outside of her AMPLFY streams, fans first saw a glimpse of what Christine is like through the YouTube videos of content creators Wil Dasovich and Alodia Gosiengfiao. Christine tagged along the Boracay trip of Wil, Alodia, and YouTuber friend Daniel Marsh where she got to experience her first plane ride.
She's also made several appearances on their vlogs after that. Christine treats the couple as her mentors and "parents" in the industry and would always express her gratitude to the two for helping her out at the start of her career.
She’s from Bulacan.
Before officially moving to Manila, Christine is originally from Bulacan. In an episode of Magandang Buhay, Alodia made a surprise appearance during Christine's guesting and shared that she would travel back and forth from the province to fulfill her work commitments in the metro. Now, though, Christine has found a condo in Manila with the help of Wil and Alodia that's just a few minutes away from the couple's own residence.
She graduated with a degree in Broadcasting.
Christine graduated from Bulacan State University in 2019. She took up a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting, which is both a dream for her and her parents. While in school, the 21-year-old multitasker would juggle her academics with work. On Twitter, she shared that she would work on thesis, go to shoots as a commercial model, do livestreams, and attend workshops in the midst of fulfilling her academic commitments.
She rose to fame after joining It's Showtime.
At the beginning of 2020, Christine's TV career took off after she was tapped by the popular noon-time variety program It's Showtime where she plays the role of "Genie-nga" during the show's Piling Lucky segment. Christine is one of the few personalities that rose to internet fame from the show, after "Ate Girl" Jackie Gonzaga. On the show, Christine holds "charot cards" while dressed as a genie inside a jar. It was one of the show's hosts, Vice Ganda, who coined her moniker on the show.
She reached 100k subscribers on YouTube after just one video.
In April 2020, Christine decided to start her own YouTube channel during quarantine. Her first ever YouTube video was her workout routine, which currently has over 1.4 million views. Wil Dasovich even pointed out Christine's incredible YouTube milestone when she reached 100 thousand subscribers on the video streaming platform after just one video.
Now, Christine has more than three hundred thousand subscribers and counting with just four YouTube videos to date. She has also made YouTube collabs with other internet personalities like Riva Quenery and Mika Salamanca.
