There are a lot of fresh faces to watch for in the local entertainment industry's new generation of stars, one of which is Charlie Dizon. The 24-year-old budding actress has already showed promising potential early on in her showbiz career. She has been working with big names in the industry and is set to star in the highly anticipated film Four Sisters Before the Wedding.

Before becoming an actress, however, Charlie had a different career path in mind. She initially wanted to be a performer and had plans to be a part of the K-pop industry. Even though her original plan did not work out the way she envisioned it, things are starting to fall into place for the multi-talented star. In case you're curious, here are a few things you might not know about Charlie:

Her real name isn’t Charlie.

“Charlie” was just a stage name given to her by Charo Santos-Concio, one of the top execs at ABS-CBN. “I like names suitable for both sexes. So, when Ma’am Charo told me that Charlie suits me, I kind of embraced it,” she shared in an interview with Manila Standard. Charlie’s birth name is actually April Rose Dizon Matienzo.

Charlie underwent idol training in South Korea.

Charlie was actually on a path towards becoming a K-pop idol. As a fan of K-pop during her college years, Charlie tried to audition for a South Korean entertainment company without her parents knowing it. She eventually passed an audition held in the Philippines and got accepted to become a K-pop trainee. She used to fly to South Korea every three months to train and see if the trainee life was for her, but had to return back to the Philippines permanently because of problems with her visa. It all worked out though because she started attending Star Magic workshops when she returned and was eventually launched as part of the 2018 Star Magic Circle.

The two recently reconnected when Nancy joined Charlie's Instagram Live back in July 2020. "She's like my best friend in the Philippines," shares Nancy during Charlie's live. Nancy adds that Charlie would always show Nancy around when she was in the Philippines and that she was supposed to show Charlie around Seoul this year if the pandemic didn't happen.

Charlie is a college graduate.

In an interview on Magandang Buhay, Charlie shared that she initially took up Nursing at University of Santo Tomas. But because she had to fly to South Korea for her K-pop training, Charlie had to stop attending school and put her academics on hold. When she returned back home, she had to start from scratch, but was eventually able to graduate with a degree in Human Resource Management.
