Celebrating one's 18th birthday with a debut is a tradition that's long been observed in the Philippines. Traditionally, a special birthday party, complete with a program that involves 18 Roses and 18 Candles, is held to welcome one's legality.

Of course, lots of people have opted for *chiller* programs the past years, with debuts being seen more as events where you can show off your personality while celebrating with the people you love... 2020 may have been way different, but lots of debutantes still got to find a way to make their 18th birthdays special.

9 Celebrities and their 2020 debuts

When everything had to shut down because of the COVID-19 pandemic, celebrations and get-togethers were prohibited. Many debutantes this year had to cancel their grand birthday plans and spent their special moment at home instead.

Below, we look back at how celebrities and influencers alike spent their special 18th birthday in 2020:

Kyline Alcantara

Kyline turned 18 on September 3 and before COVID-19, she initially planned to have a grand debut. Instead, she had a small and intimate celebration with her loved ones. She also had a dreamy and cozt photoshoot to commemorate the moment (her pet corgi was even with here for the pics!).

AC Bonifacio

For AC's 18th birthday in December, she got surprised by her family with an all-pink celebration in Canada where she's currently based. From the pretty decor to the food, everything was pretty in pink including AC herself who donned a dainty powder pink bodycon.

Belle Mariano

Belle celebrated her 18th birthday in June, back when the metro was still in community quarantine. For her celebration, Belle opted for a simple setup at home with pink and orange balloons as well as a simple and sophisticated cake.

Ylona Garcia

Ylona got to celebrate her 18th birthday right before the world shut down because of the pandemic. She had a grand theater-inspired debut at Palazzo Verde in Las Piñas City. Ylona started the night off in a lavish white ball gown as she serenaded her guests with her performances before changing into a metallic mini dress to cap the night off.

Karina Bautista

Karina had a quarantine debut just like many of the celebrants this year. She had a sweet yet intimate setup complete with pink and white balloons, beautifully designed cupcakes, and bouquets of flowers. Her close friends, family, and workmates made her day extra special with video greetings and messages for her.

Janine Berdin

For her 18th birthday, Janine decided to celebrate by giving back and helping people in need. The singer distributed relief goods to those who were affected by the Taal Volcano eruption in January 2020. A grand debut was never part of her plans, Janine shared during her interview on Magandang Buhay. "Alam ko pong na-blessed akong tao, at binless ako kasi kailangan ko pong i-give din yung blessings ko. Kaya naisip ko po na kailangan ko talagang tumulong. Para sa akin grand na po talaga yung debut ko," she says.

Bella Racelis

Instead of going for the traditional grand debut setup, content creator Bella Racelis opted for a casual night out with her close friends to celebrate her legality. She held her birthday bash at Rum Jungle in BGC.

Princess Torres

Just like the quarantine debutantes of 2020, vlogger Princess Torres held her celebration at home with her family. Her luxe setup consisted of black and gold decor. She even received a bouquet of chocolates and money.

Lexy Rodriguez

YouTuber Lexy Rodriguez already had a pre-debut video shot in a lavish hotel, but because of the pandemic, her grand celebration did not push through. Instead, she had her celebration at home which she decorated together with her family using balloons, flowers, and other decorations they bought online.
