Celebrities Who Went to UST for College

They were Growling Tigers at one point in their lives.

If you're someone who values school pride, you'll be glad to know that the University of Santo Tomas has produced some of the most celebrated artists as well as a couple of promising stars in the industry. Thomasians, here are a few of the stars who were once Growling Tigers just like you:

Charlie Dizon

Charlie Dizon, the star of Fan Girl and Four Sisters Before the Weddinginitially attended UST where she took up Nursing. She had to leave UST behind and head to South Korea to train as an idol, but due to problems with visa, the young actress had to fly back home. She eventually took up Human Resource Management in a different school.

Mikee Quintos

The Kapuso actress took up Architecture at UST. She was even working on plates while filming for her teleserye Encantadia. She played the role of Lira, the daughter of Amihan, on the show.

Iza Calzado

Coincidentally, Iza, who once played Amihan on the OG Encantadia serye, also went to UST for college. She was and Advertising Arts major and had once said that she felt like she had "no direction" while in school. "I was only taking minor subjects, three subjects per sem. So, parang wala talaga. I had no, parang no direction," she shared in an interview with PEP. But things worked out for the better though, as she started landing project after project.

Janine Tugonon

Beauty queen Janine Tugonon, who bagged the 1st Runner-Up spot during the 2012 Miss Universe, is a Pharmacy alumna at UST. She started her pageantry journey during her undergraduate years in the school and was crowned Miss Pharmacy and Miss UST during her stay there.

Kean Cipriano

The Callalily frontman spent one year in UST's College of Commerce before shifting to the Conservatory of Music. After one sem, however, Kean moved to a different school.

Piolo Pascual

Piolo Pascual first took up AB General Education at UST before shifting to Physical Therapy. He was part of Teatro Tomasino, which he credits for jumpstarting his now-storied career in acting. "My friends from Teatro Tomasino paved the way [for me] to enter show business. If not for UST, siguro hindi rin ako magiging artista," Piolo says in an interview.

Jun Veneracion

GMA journalist Jun Veneracion graduated with a degree in Journalism as a Growling Tiger.

Bonus: Maricar Reyes

Although she completed her undergraduate years at Ateneo de Manila University, Maricar Reyes went to UST to pursue a medical degree.
