I don’t know if it’s just me, but I like blasting pop songs when I’m feeling down. I’ve curated upbeat tunes into a playlist that I could easily whip out on days that I need a pick-me-up. My feel-good playlist has songs that I discovered from the most random places: rom com OSTs, my Spotify Discover page, recommendations from my friends, and of course, good old TikTok. As I was scrolling through my FYP, I accidentally stumbled upon Gen Z’s next big thing: Boys World! If you’re on the lookout for new songs that have empowering lyrics and feel-good vibes, you have to check them out.

Here are a few fast facts that the girl group shared in their exclusive interview with Candy:

1. They’re a supergroup of five members who come from different backgrounds.

Here’s a quick rundown of Boys World’s five members:

2. Queenie is a proud Pinay who was born here and was raised in California.

The first thing that you notice about Queenie when you first look at her is her striking morena features. But more than her looks, she shared that she’s very connected to her Pinoy roots. She’s even taught her bandmates some Tagalog phrases, like “mahal kita,” and let them taste local food and drinks, such as sweet Pinoy-style Spaghetti, Kopiko, and Sweet Corn.

Hear it for yourself--listen to Queenie speaking Tagalog in their Girlfriends MV, at around the 01:50 mark.

3. According to them, training to become part of a girl group is not a walk in the park.

Needless to say, the girls are thankful for the opportunity to perform and make music, but getting to where they are now was not an easy feat. “During our first year together, we had to build our stamina, figure out how to harmonize together and sing,” Olivia shared, “and that whole process of artist development was a huge learning process.” She also mentioned that one time, they had to sing Backstreet Boys’ Bye Bye Bye while climbing up and running down a mountain. Hard work, indeed!

4. Social media made so much of an impact on their career.

They’re quite thankful for social media since this is how they started, both as individuals and as a group. ICYDK, before making music as a group, the members were just regular girls posting covers on their personal accounts. But their lives changed after receiving DMs from their current handler, KYN Entertainment.

Moreover, Boys World gained most of their following by going viral on TikTok and this is what they recognize as the start of their musical careers. Elana mentioned that they’re very grateful that they’re able to make genuine content for their fans, especially since social media is “a really good way to get the message around.”

5. The girls are proudly Gen Z!

The members of Boys World’s ages range from 17 to 20, with Makhyli being the youngest and Olivia and Queenie being the eldest--these girls scream major Gen Z vibes and it’s quite evident in the way they present themselves.

Their songs "Girlfriends" and "Wingman" are anthems for women's empowerment, which is quite fitting since Gen Z is known for being outspoken about multiple causes, like gender equality and feminism. “I love that everybody is finding their voice,” Olivia says, “and they all stand for something [and are so] educated. I love being part of [this group of] inspiring, young people.” They see being part of Gen Z as some sort of youth movement that speaks about the things that matter while keeping things light with their sense of humor!

6. Expect new music from them in the next few months!

The girls have been working hard and are set to release new bops soon! Stay tuned for what’s next from Boys World, but while we patiently wait, let’s stream their singles "Girlfriends" and "Wingman" on Spotify.
