It’s been a year since K-pop girl group Blackpink--composed of members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa--dropped their EP Kill This Love. Now, they’re finally back with another bop called “How You Like That” and their fanbase, BLINKs, can't get enough of it, so much so that the official music video of the song broke yet another impressive record.
According to Variety, the girl group’s new single amassed a whopping 82.4 million views on YouTube in just 24 hours since its release, making it the new titleholder for the YouTube video with the most views in one day. As of writing, the music video already has 139 million views.
Prior to Blackpink, the last titleholder is fellow South Korean supergroup BTS who, back in April 2019, raked in around 75 million views in 24 hours for their track “Boy With Luv”. Coincidentally, a week before before BTS broke this record, it was Blackpink yet again who held the title when they dropped “Kill This Love", which has gotten 56.7 million views in a day.
Aside from breaking this YouTube record, the four-member group is also setting new achievements with their music in other platforms. Forbes reports that "How You Like That" debuted at No.5 on Spotify's global chart, making it the record holder for the biggest debut by a girl group in Spotify history. The track has since risen to No. 2 on the chart, with around 4.8 million streams worldwide. They're also the first K-pop girl group to appear on the U.S. TV show The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon where their first performance for the song aired.
Of course, the ladies of Blackpink are no strangers to setting new records and achieving all sorts of firsts. In 2019, they made history as the first ever K-pop idol girl group to perform at Coachella where they rocked the stage with energetic live performances of their hits like "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du" and "As If It's Your Last".
