Before 'Four Sisters', Belle Mariano Already Played the Younger Shaina Magdayao in a Teleserye
If you're a self-confessed teleserye junkie, then you already be familiar with budding actress Belle Mariano. Belle began as a child actress by taking on supporting roles in several popular TV shows. She just recently turned 18 years old, but she's already been hard at work to cement her place in the industry.
Here are a few things you might not know about the rising star:
She’s a Kapamilya through and through.
Belle had her start in the entertainment industry under network giant ABS-CBN back when she was just nine years old. On television shows, Belle's usual roles would be the younger versions of big stars like Carmina Villaroel in Lorenzo's Time, Julia Montes in Muling Buksan ang Puso, and Bianca Manalo in On the Wings of Love. She was also part of the cast of Goin’ Bulilit, the network’s comedy program for kids, for three years.
On how she auditioned to be part of the popular kids' program, Belle said that while accompanying a friend on set, she introduced herself to the show's director, Edgar "Direk Bobot" Mortiz, who then decided to put her in a gag segment. A week later, she got a callback to officially be part of the program. She joined Goin' Bulilit in 2012 and graduated in 2015.
She’s part of Star Magic Circle.
Every year, Star Magic—the talent management arm of ABS-CBN—launches a new batch of artists to watch for in the industry dubbed as the Star Magic Circle. The talent agency has produced some of the industry's brightest stars turned veterans like Piolo Pascual and Angelica Panganiban.
In 2019, they officially introduced 16 fresh faces as part of the network's up-and-coming artists. Belle was among the 16 talents carrying the torch for the next generation's future stars, along with other newcomers like Gillian Visencio, Glen Vargas, Kyle Echarri, and Arielle Roces. Earlier batches also include Julia Barretto, Liza Soberano, Markus Paterson, and Tony Labrusca.
Her team-up with Donny Pangilinan is to watch for.
One of Belle's most anticipated projects is the romantic comedy series He's Into Her, which is based on the Wattpad story of the same name. Belle will star as the main character Maxpein Zin "Taguro" Del Valle and will be co-stars with Donny Pangilinan, who was also introduced as a Star Magic Circle talent just a year before her. This will be Belle's first leading role in a series and also her first time being paired with Donny.
He's Into Her is set to air on iWant in 2021, but her tandem with Donny has already been gaining social media attention among avid fans as early as now.
She originally wanted to be a scientist.
While participating on the game show The Singing Bee together with fellow child artists Kyline Alcantara and Cha-Cha Cañete, Belle was asked what she wanted to be when she grows up, and she said that she'd like become a scientist in the future because she's interested in the idea of inventing.
She's played the same role as Shaina Magdayao before.
In February 2020, it was announced that the popular 2013 film Four Sisters and a Wedding (starring Angel Locsin, Bea Alonzo, Shaina Magdayao, Toni Gonzaga, and Enchong Dee) will be getting a prequel to be called Four Sisters Before the Wedding. She was selected to join the main cast together with Alexa Ilacad as Bobbie Salazer, Gilllian Visencio as Alex Salazar, and Charlie Dizon as Teddie Salazar. Belle will be playing the role of young Gabbie Salazar, originally portrayed by Shaina Magdayao.
Fun fact: This is not the first time Belle will be portraying the younger version of Shaina's roles. In 2015, she also got to play the younger version of Shaina’s role in the teleserye Nathaniel. Shaina starred as Rachel, the mother of the titular role, on the show alongside Gerald Anderson and child actor Marco Masa.
She can sing and play the guitar.
Acting isn't the only talent fans can expect from Belle. The teen star can also hit notes with her sweet voice and play the guitar. Check out her version of "We & Us" by Moira dela Torre:
She's been making a hobby out of singing ever since she was young, too. Her Goin' Bulilit co-stars even spilled that they would always spot Belle singing and would respond to their conversations in song.
She’s an ARMY.
Aside from being musically gifted, Belle also has an ear for good music. Just like you and I, she also has a soft spot for the South Korean supergroup BTS, especially for its youngest member Jungkook. Belle has been a fan of the group for years; you'll still spot her relatable fangirl tweets dating back to 2017.
