When you think about the most sought-out actors of our generation, Barbie Forteza is definitely at the top of the list. Her most recent stint with Maria Clara at Ibarra consistently made ratings soar and had viewers *obsessed* since its premiere.

Of course, there were many things to love about the show, but the cast, helmed by Barbie as Gen Z student Klay, deserves its own ovation. Though, the 25-year-old had to go through quite the climb before she became the star she is known as today.

"Yung daddy ko nga po tricycle driver dati, ‘yung nanay ko, may family business po kasi kami na yema and pastillas, tapos si mama ‘yung gumagawa ng kahon,” shared the Kapuso star in a YouTube vlog with Karen Davila.
She went on to say that her parents never made her feel like she had to work for extra income. In fact, she was the one who had to convince them to stop working so that she could pursue her career and be their family's breadwinner.
“Pinatigil ko na po ‘yung parents ko na magtrabaho. Nu’ng medyo umokey-okey na po ‘yung income, sabi ko hindi na kailangan kasi kaya ko naman,” she said.

"I am really thankful for my parents for this dahil ginusto kong maging artista, hindi nila sinabi na, ‘Nak mag-artista ka dahil kailangan natin ng pang extra.’ Never nilang ipinaramdam sa amin ni ate na kailangan naming tumulong sa kanila,” she emphasized.
Before she became the lead lady in her own shows, Barbie appeared in commercial ads and was an extra in telenovelas such as Richard Gutierrez's Lupin. She revealed that those roles weren't always easy, saying, "Medyo mahirap po dahil ‘yung time po na ‘yun wala po kaming matinong standby area and hindi mo alam kung kailan ka kukunan.
"Yung very first scene ko as an extra, na-very good ako ni direk kasi nakaiyak ako," she exclaimed, recalling an instance when she was starting out.
