Baeksang Arts Awards, an annual awards ceremony that honors outstanding achievements in the South Korean entertainment industry, has finally announced this year’s nominees for the television and film categories—and needless to say, popular K-dramas such as Crash Landing on You and Itaewon Class were expected to dominate the list. But here’s something we weren’t quite ready for: Hyun Bin and Park Seo Joon are BOTH vying for the Best Actor award! (Because seriously, how could one even possibly choose between the two?)
ICYMI, Hyun Bin is nominated for his flawless portrayal of Captain Ri Jeong Hyeok in Crash Landing on You, while Park Seo Joon is being lauded for his outstanding performance as Itaewon Class’ Park Sae-Ro-Yi. Of course, if you watched both dramas, then you should know it’s going to be an extremely difficult decision to make for the panel of judges. TBH, it’s probably best to just call it a tie and be done with it!
Also competing for the Best Actor category are Kang Ha Neul for When the Camellia Blooms, Namgoong Min for Stove League, and Ju Ji Hoon for Hyena.
Meanwhile, for the Best Actress category, Crash Landing on You’s Son Ye Jin is also on the running, as well as IU for her now-iconic role as Jang Man-wol in Hotel del Luna! They’re going head to head with The World of the Married star Kim Hee Ae, Hyena’s Kim Hye Soo, and Gong Hyo Jin for When the Camellia Blooms. It's clearly another stiff competition, if you ask us!
Crash Landing on You’s Seo Ji Hye, Kim Sun Young, and Yang Kyung Won, as well as Itaewon Class’ Kwon Nara and Yoo Jae Myung are among the nominees for the Best Supporting Actor/Actress categories.
The 56th Baeksang Arts Awards ceremony is scheduled on June 5, 2020 at 5 p.m. KST. It will be held at KINTEX, Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. To avoid the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the event organizers have decided to forego the invitation to a live audience.
