Content creator Ayn Bernos is one of the 100 women vying for the Miss Universe Philippines crown this year. The Miss Universe Philippines (MUP) organization announced the delegates on social media on Monday, July 19.

Ayn Bernos explains why she joined Miss Universe Philippines 2021

Ayn took to Instagram to express her excitement over joining the pageant. In a video addressing her followers, she started, "I think I have some explaining to do..."

She continued, "Hello everybody, my name is Ayn Bernos. I'm 26 years old, and I am officially a Miss Universe Philippines delegate. And I'm so proud to be able to say that. It feels so surreal but this has been many, many years in the making."

"When I was a kid, I would always stay up late to watch major pageants. I looked up to these beauty queens. I have so much respect for them. I admired them so much and I've always wanted to be like them. But at the same time, as a pageant fan, I always knew that I was not qualified." Ayn is 5'3 and while this isn't something she's ashamed of, height has always been a big factor in pageantry. That is, until the MUP organization removed the minimum height requirement this year.

When Ayn heard about this, she "applied on the spot. I dropped everything [and] sent in my application that day."

Ending her video, she said, "I was always dreaming of this. I always planned for this. And I'm very, very serious about joining Miss Universe Philippines. I am not just here to compete, I am here to fulfill a promise that I made myself many years ago. I promised young Ayn that I would try if I could, and so I'm here today. And to every young girl out there who dares to dream, it's possible."
