Athletes React To The Closing Of ABS-CBN Sports + Action
On Thursday, ABS-CBN Sports + Action bid goodbye after six years of service. The ABS-CBN S+A was launched in January 2014 as a replacement for the ABS-CBN’s sister station Studio 23. It served as the home channel for sports programs in the past including UAAP and other sports tournaments before it was reformatted to a whole new program that is Sports + Action.
But on Wednesday, the network announced that they will "layoff workers starting August 31 after 70 lawmakers voted to kill the Kapamilya network's broadcast franchise application." And it includes the sports program of the network.

ABS-CBN S+A carried 70% sports content while the remaining was allotted for news and entertainment. S+A became the home for UAAP and NCAA, as well as other sports. It allowed us to watch live coverage of sports for *free*, so to see it signing off is devastating especially for its employees, sports fans, and even the athletes who became part of it.
Athletes expressed their feelings on the closing of the sports station that became a part of their lives.
Let's look at some of them.
My heart and prayers go out to all the @abscbnsports staff that I worked with before. Kasama ko kayo sa pag-abot ng pangarap ko. ??????????— ???????????????????? ???????????? ???? (@Abymarano) July 17, 2020
I was once a floor director, analyst, DJ & live HD editor (my favorite job inside the OB van) during my OJT days. All the love ♥? pic.twitter.com/QY5FiopFVs

I can’t imagine college sports w/o ABSCBN. I wouldn’t have the voice & the platform wo the network. Telling stories to inspire young children that they can become what they want to be— Angeline Gervacio (@dzigervacio) July 16, 2020

In behalf of all my fellow athletes, MARAMING SALAMAT PO SA LAHAT LAHAT @abscbnsports. ????— Carmela Tunay (@carmelaloo08) July 17, 2020

Thank you for making so many of our dreams come true. More than anything, volleyball gave me the biggest stage to be 100% me. Never felt I had to hide behind a mask on that court despite so many eyes watching. All because of @abscbnsports— Bea de Leon (@_beadel) July 17, 2020
