The last two years have been—to put it bluntly—weird for students everywhere as the COVID-19 pandemic forced schools to shut down temporarily. Teachers and students had to deal with the challenges of online learning, and entrance exams have been put on hold. But after two years of suspending the Ateneo College Entrance Test, Ateneo de Manila University on August 2 announced that the application process will once again merit scores from a standardized exam.

"The Ateneo College Entrance Test (ACET) will be conducted once again starting this year as part of the application process for college admission for SY 2023-2024. As earlier announced, the revived ACET is a refreshed version of the examination designed to better assess applicants," the institution said in a statement.

They also warned against unauthorized individuals and entities, including review centers, posing in the name of the institution or of ACET.

Back in 2020, Ateneo screened prospective students based on their academic and non-academic performance from their 9th to 11th grade, class rankings, admission essays, and recommendations. Other universities, such as the University of Santo Tomas, University of the Philippines, and De La Salle University Manila also implemented a similar scheme for school year 2021 to 2022. This continued for school year 2022 to 2023.
