Everyone loves a good enemies-to-lovers, especially anime fans who enjoy the *feels.* The tension-turned-romance is something that everyone can  look forward to, especially when coupled with a great plotline and well-developed characters.

Below, we’ve listed five anime shows to watch for some enemies-to-lovers excitement!

  • Kaichou wa Maid Sama!

In this classic shoujo anime, we see the hard-working Student Council President Misaki Ayuzawa pique the interest of the popular Takumi Usui. Misaki is the typical ‘man-hater’ lead born into a less than wealthy family, which explains her double life working at a maid cafe. Takumi sees her there, and keeps her job a secret as a regular at the cafe, much to Misaki’s dismay.

  • Special A

This anime follows not just an enemies-to-lovers trope, but also an academic rivals-to-lovers setup! Hikari Hanazono has always been second to Kei Takishima in everything, and she has made it her life’s mission to beat him at something. As we know, though, there is a thin line between hatred and love! This 24-episode anime follows the two main characters and some surprise couples within the Special A, the achievers’ class for the top students at Hakusen Academy.

  • Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun

We just had to include another academic rivals-to-lovers classic! Shizuku Mitani is the cold-hearted, academics-only honor student who has a run-in with the effortlessly intelligent Haru Yoshida. Haru is the spontaneous delinquent Shizuku detests for his carefree attitude, but later, she grows to like him for his sincerity and innocence. From a love triangle to a golden retriever and black cat dynamic, this 13-episode anime is a galore of all your fave tropes!

  • Kamisama Hajimemashita

Nanami Momozono’s life initially seemed quite desolate. Because of her financial status and father’s gambling addiction, she was evicted from her apartment and continually mocked at school. In spite of all these hardships, she does not hesitate to help a man being chased by a dog. The man, Mikage, offers her his home as a token of thanks.

Apart from his shrine home, Mikage turns Nanami into a god and grants her his familiar, Tomoe. The fox spirit is initially hostile, but the two eventually grow fond of one another. This light-hearted fantasy anime is perfect to binge, and  it even has two seasons!

  • Skip Beat!

This shoujo anime is the perfect balance of comedy, drama, and romance. Kyoko Mogami has always done everything for playboy celebrity Sho Fuwa.  She learned how to cook and clean for him and even ran away with him to Tokyo when he asked. In Sho’s eyes, however, Kyoko is just another girl he can play with. Kyoko enters showbiz out of revenge and meets her match, Ren Tsuruga.

Ren initially views Kyoko as petty and foolish but realizes she might not be so bad after all. Sho also realizes that being a playboy is not all it is cut out to be.
