It’s now been a year since KD Estrada and Alexa Ilacad left the Pinoy Big Brother house and formed a love team together. Although the KDLex pairing is typically known for their ~natural~ chemistry, the two stars acknowledge that they initially didn’t see each other romantically.
“It didn’t even cross my mind, ever,” Alexa shared in a recent interview with ABS-CBN Entertainment. “And I think to everyone else din, to the people who watched [PBB], I think this [pairing] was the unexpected.”
KD agreed with Alexa’s thoughts, explaining that he only realized that *spark* between them after getting evicted from the PBB house. Prior to that, he was doubting his own feelings for Alexa because of cabin fever.
“Noong na-separate ‘yung bahay namin, doon kami naging close lalo kasi na-miss ko siya. I felt na nag-su-struggle siya ng onti doon, so in discreet ways, pinapakita ko sa kaniya na nandiyan lang ako sa kaniya. Lagi kitang kaibigan, partner, ally, kakampi,” he revealed.
“‘Pag labas namin, nag-blossom. I think that’s the very good thing din kasi minsan ‘pag dalawang tao sa PBB, it’s like, ‘Attracted ba talaga ako sa’yo or na-re-restrict lang kasi cabin fever? Do I like you or I just see you every day?’” KD further explained. “‘Pag labas namin, ‘yun talaga ‘yung determined na, ‘Okay, I really have something with you na iba. So why not?’”
Like KD, Alexa was oblivious to KDLex shippers because they never got to watch their footage together: “For me, especially inside [the house], sobrang unaware kami na may anything at all. Parang one time nasa labas kami, tapos may sumisigaw, ‘KDLex!’ Sabi pa namin, ‘Tayo ba ‘yun? Bakit?’ Siyempre, ‘di namin alam kung anong napapanood nila.”
Despite this, Alexa still feels grateful for how much fans support their bond IRL. “Kahit ako, I don’t really remember everything that happened inside. Pero it’s nice na people loved us for our authenticity, for something na hindi namin plinano,” she said. “Hindi sumagi sa mga isip namin. It just took us by surprise din, and for me, [it’s the] best surprise.”
KD and Alexa also revealed that they’re currently getting to know each other more as they prepare for more joint projects in 2023. “Definitely naging closer kami ni Alexa sa span ng 2022. Ang dami naming ginawa eh, ang daming projects,” KD concluded. Alexa added, “Every day, I get to know more a little bit about him. Ganoon din siya sa’kin because we’re together almost every day.”
