  1. The Shannara Chronicles (MTV)

If you'd like a generous serving of magic, mythology, and Austin Butler to kick off the year, then MTV’s new scripted show is just the thing for you. Based on the novels by Terry Brooks, the fantasy series follows an elven princess and a half-elf, half-human healer, who are on a mission to save their world from demons.

  2. Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments (Freeform/ABC Family)

The Mortal Instruments film sequel may have been shelved, but the fantastical story lives on in this TV adaptation starring Katherine McNamara (Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, Happyland) as Clary Fray and Dominic Sherwood (Vampire Academy, Taylor Swift's "Style" video) as Jace Wayland. Harry Shum Jr. from Glee also stars as the villain Magnus Bane.

  3. Legends of Tomorrow (The CW)

The Flash and Arrow universe gets even bigger with this super spin-off starring familiar heroes Atom, White Canary, Hawk Girl, Firestorm, Heat Wave, and Captain Cold, all brought together by time traveler Rip Hunter, who's played by Doctor Who's Arthur Darvill. Yep, we're definitely geeking out about this one!

  4. Pretty Little Liars (January 13, 2pm and 9pm on ETC)

If you thought the girls are living happily ever after now that the A situation has been resolved, think again. The midseason premiere takes us five years into the future and guess what? Mystery is still the name of the game. Luckily, the girls have had years of practice dealing with a creepy, all-seeing entity, and now they have their friends and families in the know—if only they'd accept the help everyone's offering!

  5. Teen Wolf (MTV)

Students by day, heroes by night. Scott and his supernatural squad have changed so much in the past five seasons, but in some ways they're still our same old loves. Here's hoping they all survive this journey "to hell and back"!

  6. American Idol (January 7, 6pm and 7pm on ETC)

The reality singing competition that changed the game and brought us the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, and Carrie Underwood is back for its 15th and final season. Keep your eyes peeled for a new batch of fresh talent, loads of special guests, and tributes to former contestants and viewers like you!

  7. New Girl (January 13, 9pm on ETC)

There’s a new girl on New Girl: say hello to Transformers' Megan Fox. She’ll be filling in for our main girl Zooey Deschanel during her real-life maternity leave, but don't worry, Jessica Day will be back soon enough!
