7 Most Tragic Movie Deaths

Spoilers inside! You've been warned.

Major spoilers below. Don't say we didn't warn you!

After watching The Amazing Spider-Man 2, we still can't get over the death of our beloved Gwen Stacy (Gwen Stacy, may she rest in peace), played by Andrew Garfield's real-life sweetheart Emma Stone. Like all Stonefield fangirls, we were still hoping they'd change the ending a bit—like send Gwen to some faraway country instead of allowing her character to die.

But who are we kidding, right? Her death will be the beginning of Mary Jane Watson's character, which will be played by Shailene Woodley. While we're still grieving over Gwen's passing, we look back at the other tragic movie deaths we've grieved for in the past, too. Grab a box of tissue before scrolling down, in case your feelings get the best of you.

  1. Jack Dawson in Titanic

    7 Most Tragic Movie Deaths
This is probably one of the most heartbreaking scenes, ever. Ah, young love. After everything Jack and Rose have been through in the ship, we thought they'd survive the accident and live happily ever after in New York. Jack didn't.

  2. Sirius Black in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

    7 Most Tragic Movie Deaths
We know, it was already written in the book. But we kind of put our hopes up that they'd change it in the movies—even if it meant changing a lot of things in the succeeding books. We were finally happy that Harry had someone to call family, so it was a huge blow for us when Sirius died in the hands of Bellatrix Lestrange.

  3. Severus Snape in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows

    7 Most Tragic Movie Deaths
Even though Snape was a bit mean to Harry, we have grown fond of him because of his unconditional love for Harry's late mother. His memories with Lily, which were revealed after he died, made his death more unbearable. Imagine loving someone you can't have for years!

  4. Mags in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

    7 Most Tragic Movie Deaths
A kind old lady sacrificing herself for a bigger cause? What could be more tragic than that? Mags didn't even have a proper funeral. She just ran off to the poisonous fog and killed herself!

  5. Ellie Fredricksen in Up

    7 Most Tragic Movie Deaths
And here we are thinking that love conquers all, even death. That's not the case even in the movies, because Mr. Fredricksen's wife Ellie died before he did. That montage of their years together didn't even help one bit, because it's like we watched them grow old together right before our very eyes.

  6. Setsuko in Grave of the Fireflies

    7 Most Tragic Movie Deaths
Don't let this anime fool you into thinking it's a feel good movie. Set in Japan during the World War II, Seito and her younger sister Setsuko were left to look after themselves. And you know what happens when kids are left to their own devices under very harsh conditions.

  7. Augustus Waters in The Fault In Our Stars

    7 Most Tragic Movie Deaths
Oops, sorry if you haven't read the book yet. We told you, major spoilers inside. Yup, our handsome Augustus Waters dies in the end. And we can't even hope they'd change the ending because it just won't make sense if Gus lives. *sob*
