5 Things You Missed Today (March 31)
After Sleeping Beauty in Maleficent, Cinderella, and Beauty and the Beast, Disney is set to bring us another live action adaptation about a beloved Disney princess. The production company is set to interpret legendary Chinese heroine Hua Mulan. The 1998 animated movie Mulan was a critically-acclaimed one, so we're excited to see this one come to life. Not much has been revealed about the project, but Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek are set to do the screenplay. Who would you want to play Mulan in the live action adaptation, Candy Girls?
You just can't expect Taylor Swift, patron saint of best friendship, to grace an event and not make new friends. So when she attended the iHeartRadio Music Awards this weekend, T-Swizzle made a new one. And who is it, you ask? It's none other than the gorgeous Gina Rodriguez a.k.a. Jane the Virgin. Gina presented Tay-Tay her award for Best Lyrics for "Blank Space" and after receiving it, the pop singer totally fangirled over the actress. "I've wanted to meet you for so long," she said. "you're amazing." Okay, we're trying to keep our chill and pretend this sweet moment is something we haven't dreamed of.
Mortal Instruments may not have made it into a full franchise, but ABC Family has a 13-episode series for Shadowhunters, the TV show based on the books by Cassandra Clare. The movie Mortal Instruments: City of Bones starred Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower, but it seems like they're not going to star in this series. Casting announcements and premiere date have not been revealed yet, but the show is set to start production in Toronto in May.
