It’s been 2 years since Korea’s fierce girl group first entered the music scene and astounded music lovers around the globe. Having debuted in the year 2009, 2NE1 which consists of CL, Minzy, Bom, and Dara became an instant hit to K-Pop music lovers with their distinct musical styles and unique image. Their single “Fire” and “I Don’t Care” skyrocketed to the top of K-Pop charts and at the 2010 Mnet Asian Music Awards, 2NE1 won the Album of the Year, Female Group, Best Digital Single, and the Musical Award.

2NE1’s oozing talent and charisma are without a doubt undeniable and the Philippine press witnessed this first-hand last June 04 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Makati City for their “The Party: Press Conference” where they talked about their career, Filipino food and immense gratitude for their Filipino fans.

  1. 2NE1 is a sight to behold.
Decked in elegant black garments from head to toe, 2NE1 wowed us with their quirky vibe and fresh charm. The crowd was dazed with their commanding presence and for a good five minutes, remarks from the audience such as “Wow, they look so good in person!” and “They look like Barbie Dolls!” filled the room. Known not only for their great music but also for their funky style and fashion, seeing 2NE1 in person is such a breath of fresh air.
  2. They represent female empowerment.
2NE1 is not your typical K-Pop girl group as they represent the modern woman and female empowerment through their lyrics and attitude. They are not afraid to get their ideas and points across through their aggressive songs and electronic beats which makes the term “girl power” very fitting for them. 2NE1 sure knows how to stand out amidst other K-pop girl groups with their futuristic songs and strong appeal. Now that’s what you call swag!
  3. Filipinos love 2NE1 to bits.
Having debuted only in 2009, 2NE1’s fame instantaneously reached the Philippines and they were heart-warmingly welcomed. Evidence to this are their various awards such as the 2011 MYX music award for favourite K-Pop video for their single “Go Away” and “Female Artist Group of the Year” at the 2nd K-Pop convention. When Universal Records Philippines conducted the album launch for the Philippine version of 2NE1’s album To Anyone, it was graced by lots of fans making the album reach the number 1 position in Astroplus and Odyssey, the country’s biggest record retail chains.
  4. 2NE1 is excited to be in the Philippines.
And also, to finally see their fans! The group was very touched to see their fans eagerly waiting for them at the airport when they arrived last June 3, 2011. “We felt really welcomed. We love you guys,” says the 2NE1 leader CL, who impressed us with her English responses (She can speak French, too!). Dara, who was very giddy throughout the press conference, shared that she misses eating Filipino foods such as pinakbet, sinigang, and sisig. According to Minzy and Bom, Dara would always tell them stories about the Philippines. That’s why they’re very excited to finally be here.
  5. We’ll be seeing more of them in the future.
2NE1 told the press that they are very much willing to come back here in the Philippines in the future. Minzy, Bom, and CL said that they are looking forward to go back here for another concert, to visit the beautiful places, and eat more of the delicious food which they heard from Dara. “Ako ang magiging tour guide nila!” said Dara, who can still speak in fluent Filipino. Indeed, we’ll be seeing more of these fierce girls in the future!

2NE1 brought the house down during their concert at the Araneta Coliseum at the Araneta Center, Cubao, Quezon City last June 4, 2011, and if you weren’t able to watch them live make sure you get your own copy of their album To Anyone available in all leading music stores nationwide.
