Five reasons why the sequel to the blockbuster book-turned-movie is undoubtedly THE movie to watch in November:
The return of Katniss and friends. Our favorite characters from the first movie are coming back except, of course, those who’ve died (rest in peace deep in the meadow, little Rue). So many things are happening: Katniss is now living in the Victor's Village, with friend-zoned Peeta next door; they think they’re coming back to the Capitol as mentors but LOLJK, says evil President Snow; Gale can't keep his feels in check and unwittingly becomes a pawn in the Games he so despises. Etcetera.
The introduction of new characters. Finnick. Johanna. Plutarch. No one is who they seem to be. Everyone has a hidden agenda, and Katniss better watch her back. But as Haymitch says in the book, “You just remember who the enemy is. That’s all.”
The new deadly arena. Last year’s forest arena is almost like child’s play compared to the tick-tocking island where the 75th Hunger Games will be held. Some teasers for those who haven’t read the books yet: monkey muttations, paralyzing fog, and blood rain. Eep.
A different feel. When Gary Ross, the director of The Hunger Games, dropped out of the sequel “because of the fixed and tight production schedule,” Francis Lawrence stepped in. It’ll be interesting to see the treatment of the director who helmed Water for Elephants and I Am Legend. J-Law has repeatedly given her stamp of approval: “The new movie will be very real… I really like his take, which is a lot of what I liked in Gary Ross. It's the realistic grasp of the story instead of all the details of the imaginary things."
- All those clothes. Effie is still my queen, but since we’ll be spending more time in the Capitol, we’ll get to see everyone else’s flamboyant sense of style.
