After the success of shows and movies inspired by the comic book universes of Marvel and D.C., many of the popular shows you see nowadays are derived from the storylines of comic book series. Here are some shows on Netflix which you probably didn’t know are inspired by comics.

Locke & Key

Starring: Darby Stanchfield, Connor Jessup, Emilia Jones, Jackson Robert Scott

Locke & Key is based on the comic book series of the same name written by Joe Hill and illustrated by Gabriel Marquez. A mom and her three kids move into their ancestral house called Keyhouse after the death of their father. There, the kids discover keys that unlock a whole new magical realm. The show premiered on Netflix in February 2020, but good news for fans, it is already renewed for a second season.

The Umbrella Academy

Starring: Ellen Page, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman

The Umbrella Academy revolves around a group of adopted siblings who exhibit superpowers and were trained by their adoptive father to become superheroes. The show was well-received by audience and was immediately renewed for a second season. It’s based on the comics written by Gerard Way (aka the frontman of rock band My Chemical Romance) and illustrated by Gabriel Ba.

October Faction

Starring: Tamara Taylor, J.C. MacKenzie, Aurora, Burghart, Gabriel Darku

The story revolves around the lives of a monster-hunter family and involves witches and warlocks. While the show is based on the popular comic book series of the same name by Steve Niles and Damien Worm, the show didn’t garner the needed attention and was shortly cancelled after the first season.

Lucifer

Starring: Tom Ellis, Lauren German, Kevin Alejandro

Before it even came to Netflix, Lucifer has already amassed a dedicated fanbase as a Fox TV series. The show mainly focuses on Lucifer Morningstar, aka the Devil himself, and his life on earth, particularly LA, as a nightclub owner and part-time consultant for the police. The show is based on the popular character from the DC Universe.

The End Of The F***ing World

Starring: Jessica Barden, Alex Lawther

With dark themes merged with just the right dose of humor and romance, The End of the F***ing World captivated audiences the world over and even snagged itself an Emmy nomination just after its first season. The Netflix Original is based on the graphic novel of the same name written by Charles Forsman.
