5 Films to See at Cinemalaya 2016

Local indie movies to check out this weekend!
IMAGE Cinemalaya

It's that time of the year again, when we celebrate indie cinema at the Cinemalaya Film Festival. With so many full-length and short films to choose from, it can be difficult to pick just one or two or three (a very good problem to have!). Here are five new interesting titles to help you out.

  1. Get Certified

In this fantasy comedy, you’ll meet a recently deceased girl who decides that her next life goal is to become a full-fledged demon. The question is: does she have what it takes to be hell’s next top demon?

  1. Fish Out of Water

Ever felt out of place? That's Korean-Filipino teenager Min-jae's default setting as he grew up being bullied for his mixed race. Partial to his Korean side, he's not too pleased when his mom decides to send him to the Philippines—but maybe, just maybe, this trip is exactly what he needs.

  1. Ang Bagong Pamilya ni Ponching

You already know that you should just ignore and delete spam messages, but what about those who actually fall for them? Find out what happens when a text scam goes awfully right for the schemer.

  1. Kusina

Food meets real-life drama at Juanita's kitchen. Get to know this young woman (played by Judy Ann Santos) through the dishes she prepares for all the people in her life.

  1. Mercury Is Mine

Welcome to a different kind of kitchen, an eatery at the foot of an extinct volcano, where an American teenage boy (played by Bret Jackson) seeks shelter in exchange for work.

Catch Cinemalaya films at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and Ayala Malls (Glorietta 4, Greenbelt 1, Fairview Terraces, U.P. Town Center, Solenad, and Ayala Center Cebu) until August 14.
