  1. #Y (now showing at the Cinemalaya Festival). It's Elmo Magalona like you've never seen him before. This dark movie about the hashtag generation also stars Coleen Garcia, Sophie Albert, and Kit Thompson. Catch it at the 10th Cinemalaya Festival. (Click here and here for more on the Cinemalaya movies.)

  2. Lucy (opens August 6). Think of Scarlett Johansson as the new Angelina Jolie circa Tomb Raider. Marvel's Black Widow kicks more butts in this movie brought to you by the same guy behind La Femme Nikita, Luc Besson.

  3. Into the Storm (opens August 7). If natural disasters and storm chasers are your thing, then this movie is perfect for you. Imagine watching it at one of the Dolby Atmos theaters ("beyond surround sound") that are popping up everywhere these days. Nerve-racking to say the least!

  4. What If? (opens August 13). Daniel Radcliffe in a rom-com with Zoe Kazan from Ruby Sparks? Of course we'll be watching.

  5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (opens August 13). Transformers' Megan Fox rolls with heroic talking turtles now.

  6. The Giver (opens August 20). Based on the dystopian book, the movie stars Maleficent's Brenton Thwaites, relative newcomer Odeya Rush, Vampire Academy's Cameron Monaghan, the legendary Meryl Streep, and Taylor Swift.

  7. Planes: Fire and Rescue (opens August 20). These firefighters know a thing or two about #YOLO.

  8. Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno (August 20). Director Keishi Otomo and actors Takeru Satoh, Emi Takei, and Munetaka Aoki are flying to Manila this week to promote and celebrate the sequel to the manga-based blockbuster. The trilogy ends next month, on September 24.

  9. The Purge: Anarchy (opens August 27). Not for the faint of heart, the sequel continues the story of citizens participating in and just trying to survive a night of state-sponsored anarchy.

  10. Pudsey: The Movie (opens August 27). The super cute Pudsey from Britain's Got Talent is heading to the big screen! All that fur and cuteness might just be the perfect post-Purge cure.

  11. Divergent (now on DVD). The answer to a repeat of Tris and Four will always be yes. <4

  12. Behaving Badly (opens August 1 in the US). Here's hoping that Selena Gomez and Nat Wolff's risqué coming of age movie opens here, too!
