When we first heard about director Tim Burton adapting Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, we immediately thought it was the perfect match. Who else could give justice to Ransom Riggs's story about a boy who discovers a place hidden in time and home to magical children but the man behind Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? We knew we were in for a wild, visually striking ride—and the movie went above and beyond our expectations. Here are 10 scenes to watch for:Â
Emma removing her incredibly heavy lead shoes and floating away. (P.S. Cool Halloween costume idea!)
If you feel iffy about book!Emma and book!Olive switching powers, and movie!Emma seeming less powerful and in control with her air peculiarity, don't worry because she's definitely still a badass. Here she is literally giving life (aka air) to Jake on their way to her secret place. She does so much more in the movie as you'll see when you watch it!
Miss Peregrine's peculiarity at work. That's a Nazi bomb mere feet from their home, and Miss Peregrine uses her peculiarity to turn back time, every day, on the dot.
Miss Peregrine transforming into a peregrine falcon.
You've probably seen Claire's peculiarity in the trailer, but the oddly cute combination of those golden ringlets and razor sharp teeth are worth a re-watch.
A rose from Miss Peregrine's time loop that shows what'll happen if the children go forward, way forward in time.
Fiona growing and harvesting a carrot bigger than her.
Bronwyn's extra warm welcome.
Movie night with Horace and his dreams—sometimes prophetic, mostly about clothes.
Finally, we love it every time the children gather. #squadgoals
