10 Reasons Why Korean Dramas Are So Addictive

Don't even try to deny it!

Um, need we say more? K-Drama actors and actresses are, without a doubt, ridiculously attractive. Guys like Lee Min Ho, Nam Joo Hyuk, Song Joong Ki, and more have become our self-proclaimed oppas. Not to mention that we get major beauty and/or fashion goals from beautiful actresses like Lee Sung Kyung and Park Shin Hye. Let's face it: We all look forward to steamy, brooding shower scenes from boys and princess-y makeover scenes from girls.

  1. The kilig factor

In contrast to Western shows, K-Dramas are squeaky clean—a brief kiss in a K-Drama generates a lot of attention, for starters. But it's the buildup of two characters of a conservative culture bumping into each other that makes the kiss all the more worth the wait. ♥

  1. The format

A movie is just too short to get us invested in an entire cast of characters. On the other hand, a TV show means too many seasons if ever you want to catch up, plus a lot of months spent waiting for the next premiere. K-Dramas are perfect, compact mini-series that you can squeal over and binge watch into the wee hours of the morning. (No judgment—we've all done that at some point in our lives.)

  1. The Cultural Immersion

It's educational (really!). Watching K-Dramas helps you absorb Korean culture without any boring studying. Plus, you learn about a lot of societal norms outside the Philippines, like taking off your shoes before entering the house, etc. And of course—how to slurp up ramyeun or mix up bibimbap like a pro. Mmm.

  1. Cute-sy moments

When it comes to K-Dramas, there are a lot of things given more attention than normal. Like origami toads in Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, plate number photos in Descendants of the Sun, or a claw machine in Doctor Crush. Not that we're complaining—it's the little things done out of love that make us swoon the most! ♥

You will undoubtedly have those beautifully heart-wrenching songs on repeat.

Feel like seeing a medical drama? Doctor Crush will do. Military? Descendants of the Sun. Time-travel? Queen in Hyun's Man. Action-mystery-thrillers? W: Two Worlds. Lawyers and courthouses? Suspicious Partner. Period dramas? Jewel in the Palace and My Sassy Girl. Dramatic romance? My Girl, My Secret Romance, and She Was Pretty. Shows that will rip your heart out and have you crying for days? Autumn in My Heart, Stairway to Heaven, Scent of a Woman, and more. The possibilities are endless!

  1. Language dexterity

It's not just an excuse you tell your mom when she asks you for the 32783239th time to stop watching those K-Dramas. Because not only do you become a pro subtitle-reader, but you also learn to speak a brand-new language, with key phrases like annyeonghaseyo for "hello", kamsahamnida for "thank you", or simply just aigoo for "geez". At the rate things are going, you'll be saying saranghae for "I love you" to your oppa in no time!

  1. 24/7 accessibility

Hee. Admit it or not, we all like to stream our K-Dramas online. After you click on one episode, you'll soon be onto the next and the next and the one after that...until you realize that you've finished 20 episodes in one day. Binge-watching, FTW. #TeamNoSleep

  1. Values

Of course, no K-Drama is complete without an injection of a ~*moral lesson*~. And, okay, that may have sounded kind of sarcastic, but we mean it in the best way possible. From the widening gap between rich and poor (The Heirs) to standing up for yourself (Strong Woman Do Bong Soon) to following your heart against all odds (basically all K-Dramas). To grasp our dreams, succeed in our career, and find true love—ah, thank you for teaching us about life, K-Dramas! <3
