i read about a certain "yanomamo tribe" in africa where they hold "potlatch dinners" it's where everyone stuff themselves with all the food they can eat then when they're too full, they make themselves throw up on the bushes...then they go back to the dinner tables and stuff themselves again...then they throw up again...then they stuff themselves again...it goes on and on and on, as long as there's food on the table... kinda wierd noh?   :o do u guys think they have eating disorders? haha  :P

yeah, i think that's because it's really etched in their culture. like a tribute to the gods or something. The Romans made themselves vomit in the ancient times as well. I think it's not because they're concerned with their weight. I think the Yanomamons and the Romans would just like to sample more food even though their stomachs wouldn't allow them so they emptied their tummies and eat again.

Anorexia in the 1500s or some time before that was actually because of faith. Female saints would go into a convent and fast and it was a considered a miracle that they would live. Anyway, it's only now that anorexia is "glamourized" as a sort of weight loss solution. IT IS NOT THOUGH.

I'm going to add something to my last post.
Let me tell you now that EDs can stain you forever. Before my ED, I never prioritized food. Siguro mga 30% lang yun ng buhay ko. Pero after my ED, it's hard NOT to think about food. Example: Before my ED I never really liked chocolates. Now, I crave them all the time. And if you're starving yourself, you would just kill to be able to eat any food (but can't because a voice inside your head tells you not to). Dati, I would die for a piece of lettuce. That's how desperate I was.

Thanks aznbelle and La Dolce Vita! There should be an increased awareness for this, and I'm really glad you share your own experiences to make other girls aware.

It's really hard eating and thinking normally now for me, but I'm certainly facing my fears of ED right now. Hehe. It's all because of this thread. Thanks for all your help. :)

WHAT US ANEROXIA? ???

"What is anorexia nervosa?
Anorexia nervosa is an illness that usually occurs in teenage girls, but it can also occur in teenage boys, and adult women and men.  People with anorexia are obsessed with being thin. They lose a lot of weight and are terrified of gaining weight. They believe they are fat even though they are very thin. Anorexia isn't just a problem with food or weight. It's an attempt to use food and weight to deal with emotional problems"

generally, people with anorexia are like "scared" of food cuz they're scared of putting all those calories in their body. they usually try to stay away from food and obsessively count their calorie-intake and their portions or sometimes, they just dont eat at all.

waah. I think im having anorexia. Still, i want to be thin. A lot of my friends are telling me that im fat. Im 5'3" and i weigh  120+ lbs. I want to lose some weight.  ???

you know what... dont let anybody tell u what size you have to be. as long as you know you're healthy and not obese, just be happy with your body. tell your friends you are offended by their comments. gosh! i cant believe some people have the guts to tell other people that they're fat!
if u personally feel u need to lose weight, do it the healthy way. eat right and try to exercise. being anorexic (starving yourself) or being bulimic (throwing up) arent the only ways to get to a certain weight! opt for the healthier ways to lose weight.
but gotta warn u tho... are u sure u wanna lose weight because people say u have to or because u think u really need to?
and another warning... set a realistic weight goal. dont aim for like 105 lbs! set a goal and try to stick to it. some people, when they lose weight, they keep thinking they can lose more and more and they're never happy with their size... this can lead to EDs...

i used to have bulimia kasi eh... and i just wanted everyone to be aware that i dont advice it. it might make u lose weight but what are u losing weight for? ur funeral? i swear i could've died but thank god i stopped.

um, correct me if im wrong.. but what i know about bullimia is when u feel ur so skinny that u wanna get fatter so u binge and purge on eating till u throw up.. thats why there are electrolyte imbalances in ur body and teeth problems..
and what i know about anorexia is when u feel ur so fat that u wanna get skinnier.. and u start overexcercising and overdieting.. this one is much more fatal as far as i know..

aznbelle89, if ur thinking ur too fat and u wanna be skinnier, how can u be bullimic?ur probably anorexic, but not bullimic.
  ???
if u want something very badly, set it free..
if it comes back to u,its urs forever..
if it doesnt,it was never even urs to begin with..

no disrespect or sarcasm intended, i'm quite confused with how u are confused about what i was trying to get across by saying that I used to be bulimic when i wanted to lose weight.

when i was bulimic, i ate like a construction worker (so, yes, i was bingeing) and then felt guilty about overeating and then i would purge (throw up) everything that i had eaten whether or not i needed to really throw up.

people who are bulimic mostly love food and eating and can’t stay away from the food. so what they do is they eat a lot and then feel guilty and do what they can to get rid of what they have eaten. this is done by either throwing up or taking laxatives.

so, yea, it IS bingeing and purging. but no, its not usually done by people trying to GAIN weight. its usually done but food-lovers who want to lose weight.

not necessarily. i think about half of bulimics arent fat although half of them are on the chubby side. bulimia isnt always related to desperately wanting to lose weight. for other people, its the ONLY thing they can control over-- sort of like a psychological thing.

read this article to understand more about bulimics: http://www.gurze.net/site12_5_00/whybulimia.htm

Muntik na akong maging bulimic dati pero bute na lang tumigil. Nakakainis yung pakiramdam na parang andami mong kinain kahit sa totoo eh konti lang. Grabe. Nightmare!
