Heartless
Maaga akong nagising kinaumagahan. And the gang, I mean my friends bombarded me with endless questions about the ‘date’ I had with Effy.
Dave gave me a mischievous smile. “Did she knock the hell out of you?”
“Hahaha.” The rest of them laughed.
Binato ko si Dave ng unan. “G@go.”
“Dude, tumawag pala si Tito Carlos.” I wrinkled at the thought of hearing my father’s voice.
“What did he say this time?”
“He wants to talk to you.” I sighed, knowing what would happen if I don’t take this matter seriously.
My parents, you see, they had high expectations of me. I was an only child but contrary to belief, I wasn’t exactly pampered and showered with attention, not to mention affection. My dad and my mom just weren’t exactly those kinds of people.
School was my top priority. And family comes first before anything else. They wanted me to breed intelligence and perhaps marry a decent, wealthy and good-looking girl from a powerful family. They wanted me to add to their pride. They wanted me to become like my grandpa, and inherit the company they’ve been working on for so long.
I suppose I turned out okay, but sometimes, I couldn’t stand being with my so-called family with all these pressures and burdens hanging on my shoulder. Robot na nga, puppet pa ako sa poder nila.
“Pasok na ako.” The three of them nodded as I took the keys from the table and headed out of the house.

To be honest, I didn’t feel like dealing with her this morning. But the moment she entered the gate and walked beside me, I knew I was damned.
“Zaimon Ysrael Elizalde. 19 years old. A heir to Elizalde corporations. Good morning!”
I scoffed and rolled my eyes. She chuckled in response.
“Let’s date!!!” She chirped. Whattheactualfuuuck. “What makes you think I’m going to be one of your toys, Santinez?”
“No emotional attachment. Let’s just play. Friends with benefits kind of thing but with no sex. Let’s see if this bad girl – good guy sh.t will work and shock the hell out of this school.” I was completely stunned by her sudden proposal. If you call that a proposal.
“Isn't what authors do in their story? They try to hard to make two completely different people to meet and fall in love.”
“And your point is?”
Effy’s eyes immediately darkened when she spoke.“ Let's show them the reality. That it's impossible for 2 completely different person to stay together.”
Tumawa na lang ako.
I wondered if she had a heart to give anyone, or maybe if she simply lost it along the process of falling in love. That is, if she ever did fall in love.
She had this way about her that could make anyone fall with her seemingly dangerous smiles and way of thinking. “Tho I think, we’d be good together.”
“No.” I answered bluntly and with all honesty.
“Why?” she asked, her eyes wandering. “Because I’ll break your heart.” She only laughed at me tho. Like it was some kind of joke that slipped from my damn mouth.
“I don't fcking care. I don't have a heart you know.”
She told me she didn’t care. After all, what could anyone say when right from the start, she believed she didn’t have a heart?
