---youtube

its YOU-TOOB not YOU-CHOOB

---education
its EH-JOO-KAYE-SHUHN not EH-DOO-KAYE-SHUHN

---connecticut
its CON-NEH-TEA-CUT not CONNECT-TEA-COT

 ;D  ;D  ;D

I am laughing because almost everyone I know pronounces the words mentioned above like that(Especially broccolli. LOL). A lot of people here pronounce ''coffee'' koh-pee or if they say movie they instead pronounce it moo-bee.  ;D Or if they say ''there'' it becomes ''durr''  ;D  ;D or if they say ''fork'' naging pork  ;D

sorry, can't help but laugh when I think of these kind of things.
I am extraordinary if you ever get to know me. :)

I actually kinda find it cute when Filipinos slip in their pronunciation. We're Filipinos. It's normal to don a Filipino accent when speaking English (though it annoys me sometimes)/

here's the video

http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150412452475268&comments

1. There are no 'f' and 'v' in Filipino alphabet (AbaKaDa).
2. There are no 'th' sound in Filipino bec. it is a phonetic language. There are no consonant+consonant word pattern. (right?)
3. People have innate capacity (w/in the critical age period) to adapt to whatever language is being spoken in their environment (incl. the accent).
4.... Language is different from dialect, please do not use them interchangeably!

It's just not us, Filipinos, who mispronounce words.

I hear non-Filipinos also say EK-ZAY-TED, bro-CO-li etc etc. It used to bug the heck outta me, (esp when we used to live in a small town and everyone just pretty much have the same accent), but we just pronounce things differently. I'm Filipino-Canadian and I say some words very differently from Americans and not that my pronunciation is wrong, it's just our alphabets, esp our vowels are just said in a more elongated, exaggerated way.   Point is, we can't do anything about accents or we can't force other people to say the words in a manner that we want them to. (refer to #3).

Hearing Filipinos mispronounce words is just like hearing Hispanic, Russian, Korean etc etc who didn't grew up in US or Canada or wherever saying the words differently.

Nobody is perfect. We speak the language that is spoken in our native in country and we cannot expect everybody to learn the correct american pronunciation and accent.
If it's annoying, hearing Filipinos mispronounce some English words..it's just equally annoying when Americans, half-Americans and other non Filipinos mis-pronounce Filipino/Tagalog words.
like Sam Milby saying napagtatanto as na-pag-tsa-tsan-tsow and KC Montero pronouncing Magsasay as MAg-sey-sey.
At the end of the day, people just ignore and understand that because..nobody's perfect.
Everything will be OK in the end. If it's not OK...then it's not yet the end.

i kind of like that the 'filipino-english' accent has some of its mispronunciation quirks.. it's sort of like the charm of filipinos  ;D

in school, when some of my classmates hailing from provinces would speak up, there would be some people giggling at their funny pronunciation; i don't mind it, it ain't annoying to me. what's really annoying is when somebody who obviously isn't a fluent english speaker would try to speak in a fake ~uhmerikin~ accent. puhleeeease
hey, remember when i asked for your opinion? yeah, me neither.

^ Yes, I talk a little funny, a mix of texas and pennsylvania accent lol

I ALWAYS say "yall" and every time I say "why" it sounds like "wha"

"I" --> "ah"
"Can't" --> "kint"
"Shut up" --> "sha up"
"Like" --> "lawhk"
"L.A." --> "e-lay"

Its really weird... when I visit my relatives from other states, they have a hard time adjusting with the way I talk coz their accents are different too. But when I'm with them for a long time, I pick up other accents too ha.

awkward hearing people saying "boose" for "bus". haha.

when a friend of mine died, another friend said to the relatives, "CONdolence" instead of "CONDOlence".

Is it all a matter of what accent you've got? just wonderin'.^_^

During an orientation in my brother's school, the teacher said "PAY-rents and CHI-ren, please seat down." OH MY.

Also, many people tend to say BAWL in lieu of BOWL. :|

My teacher also told me that the correct way to pronounce ALMOND is A-MOND.
