chapter two

Translations:

Aigoo- 'expression' just like when you say, OMO in Korean,
it could mean OhMygod. Aigoo could either mean, 'Sigh' or 'Unbelievable'.

MEET THE C Y B O R G.

"I said I am not a cyborg, I only have cyborg emotions, pabo! "

He was that guy you would frequently see on sidewalks, those types who loved to lean against graffiti walls, those with dark auras --- he’s one of those guys. But I never saw it coming; I never knew that one day I’d be crying over one.

But let bygones be bygones.

His point of view

I held the tip of the cigarette and then blew out the smoke as it formed a letter-O-shape in the air. I don’t really know why I need to live my life here on earth. I mean, I don’t see any meaning in it.

My life’s a routine, I always get what I want, smoke ‘til I’m satisfied, and drink ‘til I drop. People at my High School fear me. That’s because I am a one heck of a gangster, or so they thought I was. I didn’t belong to any gang. I was a gang of my own. I would kill for a cigar, that’s what they thought --- but that’s beyond their imagination. Though I am addicted to nicotine, it’s not reasonable to kill because of it.

I went out of the comfort room and went to my classroom, and as usual, I’m late for the nth time. Tardiness is my hobby. I do it on purpose. They say it’s hard to tame old habits, right? Well, the teacher doesn’t mind, because I know he wouldn’t care less. I mean, no one sees the gangster as a human, no one knows the gangster, no one likes the gangster—although I heard that I have a number of fans club in this School, but—all of them are scared of me. Scared that I might break their necks, I might break their hearts. That’s why I don’t like people --- they’re all the same, they think the same. They form conclusions in their minds even before they gather the data. They don’t give chance to others.

Anyway…

Welcome to my sanctuary. This is where I belong.

I sat at the very back portion of the room, on my usual seat, at the very dim corner glued against the wall. That’s where my exit is located. I play PSP there, without the teacher noticing.

Normal high school students would actually bring notebooks and books, pens and school stuffs with them as they step in here, but I’m just different. They’re all normal people who would follow the teachings of their parents, but I am just different. Not your typical-high-school-guy.

Maybe because I am not normal, but never call me abnormal—my sister once quoted that I am ‘very’ special. But then she’s dead and gone and it doesn’t matter a bit to me.

I lighted up another cigar, and then held it with my two fingers and secretly smoked again. I looked over my side, and I saw this… kid staring at me.

She had big round eyes, much to my delight; it looked like those of a doll. Her hair was neatly tied up in a bun, her cheeks were fury pink, her lips were dried up and thin, her nose stood out the most. She was unbelievably neat!

You’re not supposed to smoke in here, mister.” She sounded so naïve. I chuckled and then I quickly threw the cigar out to the window. “Aigoo.” She muttered, and then started to write something on a piece of paper, after she’s done, she handed it to me. “Take this, please.

She flashed me a smile. I never liked to see people smiling at me, it gives me goose bumps. I’m not used to seeing people smile. No one dares to smile at the almighty me. Smile at me, I’ll break your neck. But she’s an exception.

I gave her a look, and then when the paper was already with me, I looked at her and decided to tear the paper in front of her—but she immediately pleaded like a child would. “Please, don’t! Please. Read it…” Her voice started trailing off; I shook my head, crumpled the paper and got it inside my pocket.

What’s up with this kid? She had been talking to me since yesterday. I mean, she’s not scared of me like others who would shriek at the sight of me. I don’t get why she really wanted me to be her friend. I looked at her from head to toe, and then I pulled her out from the room. “I can’t skip classes for the day, pabo!

She complained, so I held her tighter. I liked making girls cry. “Yah! Please loosen your grip, it’s hurting me!” She said weakly and looked at her hand and then I just realized that I started to loosen my grip.

Are you sure you’re not scared of me? ” I asked her for the last time. Then, I took a pocket-knife from my pouch and then I aimed it at her. I don’t use knives to kill, I use knives to scare people away. I want to push them away from me because I am different. I am not like them.

She started shaking when she saw the knife pointed directly at her. I pushed her against the wall, and then she closed her eyes. “ARE YOU SURE YOU’RE NOT SCARED?! ” I made my voice louder this time, I just wanted to scare her off so she won’t bother me anymore. She’s really irritating!

She shook her head hesitantly and then she squirmed. “I…am…NOT…scared…of…YOU!!! ” She yelled in front of my face, and that caused me to take three steps backward. A small fun-sized girl yelling at the almighty most respected me? How dare she insult me in front of my viewers? How dare she say such nonsense?! I chuckled sarcastically and then I returned the knife to its place. I guess she’d make a good sidekick, eh? You think?

Alright, alright.” Giving up, I dusted my palm as I rubbed it against the other. “So, what do you want? ” I asked her and sat down on the ground as I had my back leaned against the wall. She sat beside me and then followed the same position that I had. Tss, what a copy-cat. Seriously, what was she created for?

I just wanted to be your friend.” She said, and again, having those innocent eyes with her. I shook my head and then I faced her. You don’t force people to be your friend, it comes naturally!

I don’t need a friend… ” I told her and then she seemed disappointed. “But because you had the courage to skip classes and not to be scared of me… ” I looked at my feet, and continued. “You could be my side kick. ”

Side kick in my vocabulary means, slave.
Yes. Nanny, secretary, runner, baby-sitter, cook, everything!

SIDE KICK, EH?! ” Her eyes widened and her voice became louder that I had to hit her on the arm to make her calm down. “But, why side kick?! Can’t we be just friends?!

She looked so insistent, so I had to grab her hair and push her head against the wall—and yeah, I did.

Listen. Very. Well. To. My. Commandments. ” I started in a soft whisper while having my eyes stuck on her and without losing the essence of a stern look.

Number 1, you NEED to follow whatever I say, without any complaints, and without disobeying me. ” I continued.

"Ehh-- "

Number 2, you are NOT allowed to call me by name. You should address to me names like, Master, Boss, but never call me by name. Since we are NOT friends in the first place.

"But I don't even know your name-- "

I took a breath and added. “And lastly, I’d only be your friend… if you’d turn me upside down… and if you could turn me upside down… you’ll finally be FREE.”

She gave me a look and let out a sigh of relief. “Wait, what does that supposed to mean?

You don’t need to know for now. But yeah, starting from this day, remember that you are not free. I'll already take hold of your schedules, of your plans, and the like. You should follow my orders, and you should NOT tell anybody about this—or else I’ll kill you. ” She swallowed a lump in her throat and then nodded.

ARASSO!” She saluted me, and then she bowed. “Master, my name’s Jamie, or you could call me—

I don’t care. ” I told her and started to leave out of that corner. I stopped when I sensed that she was following me. “DO YOU WANT TO DIE?!

Her eyes widened, her body froze. “N—No.

Then stop following me because you're irritating me!

My cell phone rang, and then I answered it.

So, you got the next target already?

Yes. I already got her... But I'm not so sure about this.

Keep an eye on her, and never let her get away.

Yes, sir. I’m on it.

Remember… if you let her get away, you’d be dead meat.

And then I hung up. It was a call from the person... who cursed me--the one who removed love and tears from my being.

The beginning was really something we never saw coming. Little did we know that harmless beginnings may lead to everlasting torments
