Chapter 40-6. Big BAG Theory

Ako? Sus. Simple lang ang routine ng buhay ko... most of the time, nanunuod lang kami ng mga kapatid ko ng mga movies na dina-download ko, tutulong ako sa gawaing bahay at gawaing talyer, tatambay sa open court sa barangay namin at makikipag laro ng basketball sa mga lasinggero dun, o kaya ng tumbang preso sa mga batang palaboy-laboy dun... kung hindi man, magdamag akong nasa harap ng laptop ko naghahanap ng mga bagong hot pictures ni John Lloyd Cruz, o kaya naman kumakain lang ako... if i’m not eating, tulog ako...

Yeah, tulog ako... bukod nga ata sa CHEATING at pagkain, ito ang natatanging talent ko - ang pagtulog. Madikit nga lang ata ang likod ko sa pader, tulog na ko... ipikit ko lang mga mata ko maya-maya humihilik na ko. Kaya nga nung umalis si Sef para pakainin si Chow-Chow... hindi ko namalayan nakatulog na ko sa duyan habang hinihintay siya... and by the time I woke up there was a blanket wrapped around me tapos madilim na ang paligid... and the sun was already hiding...

Napa-upo ako sa duyan and I looked around but Sef or any other human being wasn’t in sight. Siguro nasa loob ng bahay si Sef... I stretched my arms. Wow. Ang sarap ng pagkakatulog ko. Then I stared at the blanket, para kong tangang biglang napangiti... okay sige na nga, bigla akong kinilig kasi naisip ko na baka si Sef naglagay sakin nun. Hahahaha. Sana. How I wish... Feeling mo naman, baka si Butler George naman daw Ellie!! O baka si Chow-Chow... naku baka nga!!

I stood up, feeling in the fresh night air that slightly blew against me. Napatingin ako dun sa lawa, and decided to walk about its edges. Sa totoo lang, may pagka nature lover kasi ako... ewan ko ba, sabik na sabik ako sa tuwing nakakakita ako ng mga puno, ng bundok... haha. Siguro kasi, wala kaming probinsya... diba nga? Mga pure Tagalog kasi pareho sila mama’t papa. Haha.

Naglakad-lakad lang ako sa gilid throwing stones once in awhile. I was amazed by the way the stones created a rippling effect. Sinubukan ko kasi yung patatalunin mo yung bato sa tubig. Ang cool!! Haha. Hindi pa sana ako titigil when I noticed sa mejo di kalayuan, there was a wooden dock. Yep, yung parang small bridge that stood by the lake. I excitedly made my way towards it, exploring the entire place on my own.

I knelt down at the edge of the dock and dipped my hand in the water. Brrr... Mejo malamig. Suddenly, something occurred to me... yung sinabi ko kay Sef kanina, “Sef, pano kung tumalon ako ng hubo’t hubad jan sa lawa?” Well, yeah... sumagi yung idea sa isip ko kasi... totoong gusto kong subukan yun. Oo, pramis... katulad nung mga napapanuod ko sa TV... the ones who would jump off the cliff stripped down naked. Para kasing... ang wild nung idea... but I badly wanted to try it. Nagtip-toe pa ko malapit sa edge nung dock para silipin kung gaano kalalim tong lawa.

Feeling niyo naman, syempre HINDI ko naman gagawin yun dito!! Mahiya naman daw ako diba? Haha. Baka nga mamaya may mga hidden camera jan sa mga puno-puno. Wala naman akong balak sundan si Katrina Halili sa scandal niya nuh!! Haha.

Minsan nga, sabihan ko sila Borge, outing kami, strictly ALL GIRLS!! Gusto ko sa dagat, yung tipong may bangin... tapos tatalon talaga ko, ita-try ko talaga ang ---

Biglang, ‘ARF!’, napalingon ako sa tahol ni Chow-Chow, but he was running fast towards me. Yung itsura na parang namiss ka niya na ewan... then he jumped on me, his strong two feet pushed me hard at na-off balance ako, my feet were on the very rim of the dock. “WHOA ~ WHOA ~ WHOA~” I was trying to keep my balance, yung mga kamay ko parang naging mala pakpak na winawagayway ko.

Oh diba? Yan ang gusto mong i-try Ellie?? Ayan, mahuhulog ka na sa lawa ng wala sa oras!!

Chowy stared at me. “Ch-Choweee...” I called nervously. Ee sino pa bang tatawagin ko ee siya lang yun andun?

Mahal na breed si Chowy. Hindi lang mahal, matalino pa. At worth it ang pera’t dog food na ginagastos nila Sef sa kanya for he quickly sensed that I was in trouble. Chowy bite on my dress so as to pull me. Kaso lang mumurahing tela lang naman yung damit ko, at masyadong mamahalin na aso si Chowy, kaya hindi kinaya ng dress ko ang matutulis na pangil niya.

My heart stopped, rinig na rinig namin pareho ni Chowy yung pagkakapunit ng damit ko... CCCCRRREEEEEEEE~AAAKKKKK...[/font] at ayun, hindi ko na naramdaman yung paa ko sa dock... parang slow motion akong nahuhulog... Gravity was pulling me down...

PATAY KA NGAYON ELEONOR MALICSI DIMACULANGAN!!

T-teka lang, hindi naman ito yung gusto ko Lord. Hindi ganito!! Mali ee... HINDI PA NAMAN AKO NAKA HUBAD!!

I struggled to keep my head up the water. Tahol na ng tahol si Chowy. Hanggang sa bigla siyang tumakbo paalis!! WALANG YANG ASO YUN!! SIYA NGA DAHILAN KUNG BAKIT AKO NANDITO!! TAMANG IWAN AKO?? SANA MAN LANG DINAMAYAN NIYA KO!! Panoorin man lang niya kong malunod, at least alam kong hindi ako mag-isa... Naku talaga, siya unang-una kong mumultuhin!! Sus mio Ellie, papatulan mo pa yun aso?? Prublemahin mo muna yang paglunod mo!!

Ah sheet. Oo nga!!

Lahat na ng pag-padyak, lahat as in lahat na ng alam kong swimming sinubukan ko... back stroke, front, side, ultimo butterfly... hala, sige, sipa Ellie... sipa pa!! Hinga. Inhale, exhale... but to no avail... I sank, the water was eating me alive... parang may kamay na humihila sakin pababa.

MAG-ISIP KA ELLIE!! MAG-ISIP KA!! Ah, sige, sige... pag umabot na yung paa ko sa lupa, sa kailali-laliman nitong lawa, lalakarin ko na lang hanggang sa maka-ahon ako!!!

Punyemas!! Yun na yun?? Yun na ang plano mo Ellie?? Eeeh, meron pa bang iba? WWWAAAAAAH!!!

I could feel my lungs suddenly inflamed, nawawalan na ko ng supply ng hangin. Oh no, no, no, no... this is bad. Really, bad. Lord, anjan ba kayo? Hindi pa ko ready... hindi pa talaga... marami pa kong mga pangarap... gusto ko pang makapunta sa Egypt para makakita ng mummies, gusto ko pang makita in person si John Lloyd Cruz... chaka... mamahalin ko pa si SEF!!

Chapter 40-7. Big BAG Theory

There was a piece of cloth on Chow’s foot. “What is it this time?” Alam niya pag ganyan yan, merong gusto. Hindi mapakali si Chow, he kept barking at Sef then it kept running and moving around. Pinulot ni Sef yung tela and he noticed someting familiar with it. Tahol pa din ng tahol si Chow sa kanya. “Okay. I’ll go with you.” Sef led him out the mansion, at pagkabukas na pagkabukas niya ng pintuan, Chow broke into a run. Napansin niyang papunta ito sa may lawa. He suddenly frowned, Chow hates being anywhere near the lake lalo na kapag walang kasama.

Tinignan ulit ni Sef yung hawak niyang tela... Something was wrong. Parang nakita na niya toh... hindi lang niya alam kung... Wait a minute... This is... The first thing that came into his mind was Ellie. Yeah, ito yung mismong kulay ng damit ni Ellie.

Chow was already barking at the water by the dock. Tinanaw ni Sef si Ellie sa may duyan but she wasn’t there. D@mn. Kinabahan si Sef and he, too, started to run towards the dock. Para siyang si Super Sonic sa sobrang tulin. The moment he peered down the water... Nawala na sa isip ng binata yung mamahaling sapatos niya, yung relos niyang regalo pa ni Lianne nung ika-1st anniversary nila... basta, he just only jumped. “Ellie!”

His heart was pounding with worry. Sinisid ng binata ang lawa, and the moment he saw her, she was almost losing her consciousness. He grabbed her by the waist and without wasting much time he swam, pulling her up.

The moment their heads bobbed out the surface, “Ehy, Ellie!!”Sef studied her slightly pale face. He was worried as hell.“Ellie!” She didn’t reply. Chowy was still barking, non-stop kaya naman naglabasan na sila Butler George para tignan kung anong nangyayari.

Lumangoy agad si Sef para i-ahon ang dalaga, he carried her out the water like she was some damsel in distress, only unconscious.

“Go get some towels, and call an ambulance QUICK!” Instructed ni Butler George sa isang maid.

Sef carefully placed her down the ground.“Ellie.” He called again. “Sheet.” Every part of Sef were now shaking. Inilapit ni Sef ang tenga nya sa dibdib ng dalaga so as to hear her heartbeat. Sef placed both his hands atop her chest and for several times he put pressure on it like what people do to revive a drowned person. “Dammit! Ellie!!”

Kabadong nakatingin sila Butler George sa dalaga, pati yung maid na kababalik lang na may dala-dala ng tuwalya.

“ELLIE!!” She didn’t budge. Her lips were now pale. Sef doesn’t know CPR. Ibang kasing CPR ang alam nya. Haha. He was now shaking uncontrollably. Ayaw sa lahat ni Sef yung mga ganitong klaseng sitwasyon...

Sef made another attempt, exerting more pressure this time. “C’mon.” He muttered, getting angrier already. And alas! Eleonor Malicsi Dimaculangan then coughed out water then breathed in air for what seemed like the first time. Hingal na hingal namang napa-upo si Sef sa tabi ni Ellie.

“Sheet.” He muttered in uncontrollable rage. “Could you get any more crazier!” He shouted at Ellie.

Butler George then waved a hand, dismissing all the maids to go back to their works.

Sef ran a hand on his now wet hair. “Cancel the ambulance George. Ako na magdadala sa kanya sa ospital.”

Ellie continued to cough out water. “O-okay na—ko.” Muka nga namang okay na siya. “Tin-ulak ako ni Ch-owy. Na-off bala--” Ellie struggled to talk in between her coughing.

“So now, you’re just going to blame it all on Chow?!”Galit na sinigaw ni Sef sa dalaga. Sef then felt the eyes of George on him. Matagal ng nagtatrabaho si George sa mga Monteverde, inabutan pa nga nito ang dad nila Sef at Matt. And with all those years, the old man gained the skill of reading the young lad’s mind. Ganyan si Sef kapag sobrang nagaalala pero ayaw lang ipahalata.

Na-conscious bigla ang binata kay Butler George. Sef then took off his watch, trying to divert George’s attention to something else aside from analyzing him. “Dammit.” Hindi naman napasok ng tubig ang loob nung relo, but it did stop working.

“Bakit?” Ellie managed to ask with her eyes still closed. “Ano yun?”

“Nothing. Yung relos lang na bigay ni Lianne.” He muttered in a heavy tone. Sa totoo lang, it didn’t bother Sef that much. Relos lang naman yun ee. Pagagawa na lang niya. Na-conscious lang talaga siya kay George kasi... BAKA bakas sa muka niya yung... pagaalala. And he doesn’t want George or even Ellie for that matter to think that. No, no... he’s definitely wasn’t worried!! He was just, ANGRY. Oo, nagagalit siya kay Ellie. Honestly, he has no idea why. But his anger was too evident, too uncontainable.

Could it be because she really got him worried too much? Or that she scared the hell out of him??

Sef stood up and grabbed the towel from George to dry himself up.

“Please, sa susunod na suicide attempt mo, do it somewhere else. Just not any place near our property!! Bababa pa value nito kung dito ka pa magpapakamatay.”

Nagulat si Ellie. Muka ba talaga siyang suicidal? Ee totoo namang natulak siya ni Chowy?? Baka galit lang si Sef kasi nasira ang relos na binigay sakanya ni Lianne sa pagsagip nito sakanya!!

Ellie tried to stand up, pero hindi na siya pinansin ni Sef as he walked pass her. Without a word, dumire-diretso na lang ito sa mansion.[line]Eleonor Malicsi Dimaculangan

I summoned all the energy I have to stand up. “Let me help you, miss.” Butler George offered as he wrapped a towel around me. Si Sef? Hindi na siya nagsalita, iniwan na lang niya ko. Such a gentleman!!

Para akong hangin ng nilagpasan na lang niya ko. I even manage to take a glimpse of his face – and I’ve never seen him that angry. Hindi ko na piniling sumunod sa kanya. I just stood there, katabi si Butler George.

Pinanuod ko lang habang naglalakad si Sef pabalik sa mansyon... I watched his back... hanggang sa hindi ko na siya matanaw... and I felt my chest ache... siguro, siguro... dahil sa pagkakalunod ko lang toh...

Marunong naman akong makiramdam... At hindi naman kailangan ni Sef na iparamdam sakin toh!! Oo, hindi kasi obvious... hindi masyadong OBVIOUS na nagsisisi siya na sinagip pa niya ko!! Syempre kung hindi siya tumalon, ee di sana buo pa din yung linshak na relos na binigay sakanya ni Lianne!!

Nakita ni Butler George na napahawak ako sa dibdib ko. “Is anything the matter?”

I shook my head. Nakuha ko pa ngang ngitian si Butler George. “W-wala ito... Haha... After shock lang ng pagkalunod. Haha.”

Sige, ikaw na Ellie... ikaw na ang dakilang SINUNGALING!! Hahaha.

Chapter 40-8. Big BAG Theory

Nagsisisi si Sef, that I am sure of! Hindi na niya kelangan sabihin, ramdam na ramdam ko. Maybe he was thinking that he shouldn’t have risked jumping off the dock... nasira pa tuloy ang precious watch niya na bigay ng one and only EX girlfriend niya!!

Bakit? I didn’t ask him to dive in there to save me in the first place!! In fact, si Chowee pa nga itong una’t huli kong tinawag!! But then... on second thought, dapat lang talaga na sagipin ako ni Sef, aso nila dahilan kung bakit ako kamuntik ng sumakabilang buhay nuh!! Ayon sa batas, liable sila sakin due to negligence!! Oh diba? Base on law na yan!! Haha.

Atchaka, sandali nga! Bakit ba AKO sinisisi niya?? Sino ba naman kasing tangang hindi nagtanggal ng relos bago tumalon sa lawa diba?? Tapos sakin siya galit na galit!! GGGRrrrr... Tapos tingin pa niya sakin suicidal ako!!

Naiinis ako sakanya... alam niyo yung parang sasabog ka sa inis pero hindi mo ma-express kasi hindi mo alam kung pano??

But then, naisip ko... pano nga naman kung LAPTOP ko yung nasira? Feeling ko hindi ko kaya yung ginawa ni Sef na nag-walk out lang. Pakiramdam ko nun, magwawala tlga ako. Magdidilim ang paningin ko... sasabog ang lahat ng hindi dapat sumabog!! RRRAAAAHHH!! Hahaha.

Yeah. Sa tingin ko naiintindihan ko yung nararamdaman ni Sef. Importante sa kanya yun... pero... hindi ba ko mas mukang importante sakanya?? Ehem... ibig kong sabihin... RELOS lang yun. Kung baga in elementary terms, non-living thing yun. AKO? AKO NA LIVING THING ang dapat niyang pahalagahan!! Ako nagsasalita, kumakain, natutulog... at higit sa lahat... NALULUNOD!! Haha. Hndi kagaya ng relos na yun na pwedeng PALITAN!!

Pinagbuksan ako ni Butler George ng pintuan and as I entered, nakita ko agad yung Tita ni Sef. She was standing by the stairs, hawak-hawak yung tungkod niya. “What’s the commotion all about?” Parang napatigil ang lahat ng tao sa buong mansyon, lahat ng maids at mga katiwala... oo, pati lahat ng lamok na lumilipad, mga langgam na nagtatago sa mga suluk-sulok... pati nga ata oras biglang napatigil just by hearing Tita Yolly’s voice.

Sef,on the other hand, was at the foot of the stairs, papanik palang siya.“Just a little accident in the lake, Tita.” Halata pa din yung pagiging BV sa boses niya. Napansin kong hawak-hawak pa din niya yung relos na bigay sa kanya ni Lianne na kakasira ko lang. Oo, inaako ko na ang kasalanan, kahit na hindi nman talga dapat!!

I then clutched tighter onto the towel wrapped around me. I was slightly shivering. Parang whiplash na bumaling ang mga nakakatakot na mata ni Tita Yolly sakin. “Hm, I see.” She raised one eyebrow and her lips were in a thin straight line. “You.” A-ako? Ako daw? Napaturo nga ako sa sarili ko ee. “Follow me.”

Napatingin ako kay Butler George, who gave me a look of fear. Kahit yung mga maids na naka-witness ee kabadong tumingin sakin. Parang sila tong biglang natakot. Yung para bang, sesentensyahan ako ng kamatayan at parang huling araw ko na sa planet Earth. Sef stood frozen by the stairs, I could feel his angry stare on me pero pinili ko na lang na wag siyang tignan as I ascended up the stairs and walked behind his aunt.

Tahimik lang akong sumusunod sa likuran ni Tita. Sheet Ellie. Tlagang kinarir mo na, TITA na tlaga ang tawag mo!! Haha. Even though I was a good distance behind her, amoy na amoy ko yung pabango niya. It was sweet, pero may pagka matapang sa ilong. We walked in silence, ako naman nakikiramdam lang... at ang natatanging naririnig ko lang were our footsteps and the clicking of her cane against the marble floor.

Mejo bata pang tignan si Tita. Nakakapagtaka nga kung bakit kelangan pa niyang gumamit ng tungkod. Siguro style yun. Haha. Her brownish hair was in a tight bun. Kahit nakatalikod siya, I could see her skin na sobrang flawless... ni wala ngang kulubot o wrinkles ee. Siguro gumagamit siya ng age-defying ng Olay. Hahaha. O kaya customer siya ni Vicky Belo.

Isang mahabang hallway yung nilalakaran namin, compared nga sa bahay ni Sef... this mansion could actually be mistaken as a five star hotel in itself. Dios ko ang layo ng isang kwarto sa isa’t isa. May velvet na carpet. The design of the entire place has a touch of elegance and style.

Tita Yolly led me to a room na soooobrang laki!! No, exaggeration but I think kasya ang lahat ng mga Malicsi sa kwartong ito. Sana nga dito na lang kami nag Christmas party nun. Kahit mag-patentero o mag-langit at lupa pwedeng-pwede. There’s plenty of room para magsama pa ng alagang elepante. Hahaha.

Tahimik lang ang Tita ni Sef even as we entered. Dire-diretso lang siya sa malaking wardrobe niya at meron siyang hinahalungkat. Ako naman, nakatayo lang dun, basang-basa pa din. Dios ko, balak ba niya kong patayuin na dito??

Aside from the size of the room, the next thing that completely got my interest was the family portrait hanging by the wall. I found myself staring at it. Tatlong tao lang yung nasa painting. Yung sa tingin kong ama, ina at yung nag-iisang anak na lalaki.

By the way the father smiled, I could conclude that he’s a humble kind man. He has strong appealing features, matangos ang ilong, at may pagka-grayish ang mata. He was standing behind his spouse, at naka-hawak ito sa balikat ng kanyang anak na lalaki, looking all proud to his son.

The son, however, appeared around ten or twelve years of age. He has the same eyes like his father, pero hindi masyadong mahahalata kasi kelangan pang titigan dahil sa kapal ng eyeglasses na suot-suot nito. The son’s shoulders were slightly hunched down but still he gave a small shy smile.

Last but not the least... the mother... she has long curly hair, brown rounded eyes and thin lips that are coiled up to a sweet, genuine smile. Parang hindi ito marunong magalit, yung tipong hindi marunong mag-sungit. Tinitignan ko pa nga lang yung smile niya parang nakakahawa na ee. Tipong mapapa-smile ka din sakanya.

Napangiti ako. Naisip ko kasi... ano kaya itsura ng family portrait ko pag nagpagawa ako twenty years from now? Haha. At naimagine ko, ako yung nakaupo sa pwesto nung babae sa painting, may hawak-hawak na baby. Tapos sa likod ko... ang nakatayo... si SEF, may hawak-hawak din siyang isa pang baby namin!!! PPppffffttt... hahaha... Loka-loka ka talaga Eleonor Malicsi Dimaculangan!! Nakita mo ngang galit sayo yung tao ee...

“Done already?” Biglang sabi ni Tita Yolly sakin. “Ay, tokwa!” Napahawak ako sa dibdib ko. Nagulat naman daw ako... Pero t-teka nga... My eyes darted from the painting to Tita Yolly. Parang naglalaro lang ako ng SPOT THE DIFFERENCE!! Hahaha. SURE AKO. SIYA YUNG NASA PICTURE!! Weeeeh? Oo nga, and the difference was that yung nasa painting mukang ANGHEL!! Then Ellie... that means... yung nasa harap mo ngayon...

INAY KO PO!!

Tinignan lang ako ni Tita Yolly at napalunok ako. Her eyes were lethal. Her thin lips twitched downward. This woman standing before me was the exact contrary of everything the painting portrays her to be.

Without blinking, inabutan niya ko ng damit – jeans and a shirt. Mali ka Ellie... see? Mabait pa din naman pala ee. Binigyan ka ng damit pampalit!! Hahaha. “Ah, s-salama--”hindi ko pa man tapos ang pagpapasalamat ko sakanya bigla na siyang nagsalita as though she doesn’t really want to hear my thanks.

“You don’t look like a stupid girl to me.” Uhhh... It took a second bago ko na-absorb yung sinabi niya. Grabe naman mag-compliment itong tita ni Sef... kelangan pang negate the negative para maging positive. Pwede niya na lang namang sabihing You looked like a smart, intelligent girl to me. Pero hindi ee, talagang kelangan pang gumamit ng STUPID!! “So, I assume you already know.” Wala man lang preno... wala man lang PAUSE... dire-diretso lang siya. “You’re not good enough for Josef.” She gave me an evil grin. “And, sweety...You never will be.”

Pakiramdam ko tinamaan ako ng kidlat. Para kong sinampal ng walang kamay na dumadapo saking pisngi. Her words were sharp and it pierced right through me. Para siyang nagpsabog ng granada. Kung baga sa gyera... na-ambush ako... parang gusto kong sumigaw ng, SOLDIER DOWN, SOLDIER DOWN!!

Pero mas masarap isiping napo-possess lang itong babaeng nasa harap ko kaya niya nasabi yun!! Hahaha.

Oo. Alam ko... ako yung tipong kahit kelan walang pakialam sa iniisip at sinasabi ng iba. I know... easy ka lang... I have my reasons... siguro dahil alam ko sa sarili kong TOTOO yung sinabi niya. Actually siguro nga... matagal ko ng alam, hindi ko lang kayang i-admit sa sarili ko.

Animales, hindi ako sanay na nagiisip ng ganito!! Parte pa rin ba ito ng after shock ng pagkalunod ko?? AHHH. EWAN!! MASAKIT KA NA SA ULO ELLIE!!

I forced a smile.“Haha. Oho naman tita. Hindi niyo naman po kailangan sabihin ang obvious.” I chuckled. Oo, Ellie... itawa mo lang. TAWA.

“Good.” Tita Yolly nodded once. “Good thing we’re on the same page. The driver will get you home.” With that, Tita Yolly pointed her cane towards the door which only meant one thing – she wants me to leave the room.

I was still smiling as I turned my back to leave.

Ellie... Remember our little technic?

DEDMA.

Oo, Ellie... poise. DEDMAHIN MO LANG... kahit pakiramdam ko... I would break any minute now. Masakit pala... masakit pala marinig yung TOTOO sa iba... the truth that I was denying from myself all along.

Parang dahan-dahan kong naramdaman yung bigat ng mga pangyayari sa buong araw na toh. Parang meron akong pasan na isang malaking BAG na punong-puno ng kamalasan.

I started this day feeling all excited... but that excitement turned to five hours of hell while I was waiting for Sef sa Starbucks. Tapos I got terrified for nearly drowning to death, yung parang pakiramdam ko magtatapos na lang ang lahat-lahat ng ganon... tapos si Sef naman nagalit sakin at sinisisi ako sa pagkakasira ng relos na binigay sakanya ni Lianne... and here I am now in front of the woman version of Hitler, basang-basa at punit-punit pa ang damit, dinaig ko pa nga ata si Sisa sa itsura ko ngayon...

Now, somebody tell me... Who wouldn’t feel like crap?!

Chapter 41-1. Stupid Cupid.

The water was warm and riveting. I let it tickled my skin for a little while. Sa totoo lang, I love taking showers, lalo na kapag ganito ba naman kagara ang banyo... Taking showers never failed to give me the soothing feeling I need. Pakiramdam ko kasi, kasama ng pag-agos ng tubig yung mga prublemang bumabagabag sa isip ko. These thoughts will go with the water at dire-diretsong mafa-flush.

Pero sana... sana ganun lang talaga kadali ang lahat... I let out one deep breath. I opened the sliding door and grabbed the towel and quickly get dressed. Papalabas na sana ko when I suddenly noticed my reflection against the bathroom mirror.

You’re not good enough for Josef. And, sweety... you NEVER will be.

I painfully looked away. Parang nate-tempt nga akong basagin yung salamin ee. Gusto ko ulit bumalik sa pagsha-shower para ma-flush na lang ulit lahat toh. Ano ka ba naman Ellie? Baka mamaya maging serena ka na sa kakaligo mo!!

GGGGRRRRrrrrr... Punyemas Eleonor Malicsi Dimaculangan!! Ano bang prublema mo?? Bakit ka ba sobrang apektado?? SO WHAT KUNG TOTOO? SO WHAT??

I angrily grabbed the door, kainis... UUWI NA NGA LANG AKO!!

I walked in the long empty hallway. Not a sign of Sef. Magpapaalam pa ba ko sa loko-lokong yun? And I thought, wag na lang... Mas okay ng galit siya sakin, mas okay ng... ganito ang ending.

There's a right or wrong to know for everything
And the truth is somewhere written in between

Sometimes, life can really take us by surprise. Yung parang kapag nanonood ka ng TV, you thought you already know the ending... pero yun pala... the ending you’re anticipating wasn’t even close to what actually happened...

Parang ganito...

Eleonor Malicsi Dimaculangan glued her eyes outside the window, trying with all her might to ignore the presence of the handsome young man na siyang may hawak-hawak ng manibela. Oh, yes, ladies & gentlemen, hindi kayo nagkakamali... It was Miguel Josef Uy Monteverde who was driving Ellie home. Yeah, don’t worry... kahit si Ellie, akala driver maghahatid sakanya...

Well, generally speaking, yung driver naman talaga dapat ee... Pag-sakay ni Ellie sa kotse na naghihintay sakanya paglabas niya ng mansyon, sabi niya sa inaakala niyang driver. “Uh, Kuya pa-Maynila po--” Hindi pa man siya tapos magsalita, at hindi pa man din niya naisasara ng maayos ang pintuan, kumaripas na ng takbo yung sasakyan. At kabadong napakapit na lang sa kanyang upuan ang dalaga... until she noticed on the side mirror na merong mamang pilit silang hinahabol. Kumakaway ito as though desperately begging for them to stop. Pero wala na itong nagawa lalo na’t nakalabas na sila ng gate.

‘Ano toh, kidnapping?’

It was when she looked nervously at the guy driving next to her... she was prepared to jump off the vehicle...Kaso lang parang tumigil ang mundo ni Ellie... It was her heart that actually made a leap when she saw Miguel Josef Uy Monteverde... he still has a serious frown on his face at naka-focus lang ito sa kalsada.

‘Kaya pala mabango...’

Napa-upo na lang ng maayos si Ellie at tumingin na lang siya sa labas ng bintana, trying to ignore the strong presence of Sef...

There was an evident tension lingering in the air. Something unspoken yet familiar... something words could easily patch up... if only... yes, if only, one of them has the courage to speak...

Sef hates it when he’s being reminded of that feeling... yung feeling na iniiwanan. Yep, yung nangyari kay Ellie na pagkalunod kanina triggered that feeling... What? For someone like Sef who grew up alone... who grew up being used to people leaving him... it’s kind of a big deal. Pag-labas pa lang niya sa mundong ito, his mom left... sumunod dad niya... then his brother... tapos si Lianne... lahat ng taong... importante sakanya... they just... leave...

He knew he has gone too far nung sinigawan niya si Ellie kanina. He shouldn’t have acted that way... pero... kung iisipin natin... Sef was consistent... walang pinagkaiba yung reaction niya kanina dun sa pagkalunod ni Ellie nun sa Tagaytay. Do you guys remember? Pati yung hotel manager nadamay and cost his job for it. Kahit si Japo pinili na lang na hayaan si Sef nun coz he knew when Sef’s in such a foul mood, nagiging isang certified JERK ito.

Ellie, on the other hand, was feeling uneasy. She doesn’t want to go anywhere near him. Baka mamaya matetano pa si Sef, sisihin nanaman siya ng Tita nito. Para bang maling andito siya ngayon sa kotse at pinagmamaneho ni Sef, sabihin pa ng Tita niya inaapi niya ang pamangkin.

Deafening silence ensued...

Both are thinking different things, but all nonetheless the same... Ellie was preoccupied about things concerning him & him about her. But then again... they’re probably clueless as to what was really going on... I mean, really, really going on...

Oh, it must be Cupid!!

Well, I can visualize the pieces of a dream,
And it's not as far away as it may seem
But if truth be told, it is you that holds the key
To the question that defines my destiny

“ITIGIL MO NGA ‘TONG SASAKYAN!!” Ellie finally said, actually commanded was more like it. “BABABA AKO!!” She sounded serious.

“What?” Sef asked incredulously. Binabaybay pa nila ang lupaing pagmamay-ari pa din ng Tita niya. They were still half-way in reaching the main road kaya walang ibang pwedeng dumaan sa kalsadang ito unless they have the permission of Yolanda. Binuksan na ni Ellie yung pintuan kahit hindi pa man naka hinto ang kotse. “Ellie, will you just...” Naka-position na si Ellie na tila ba pababa na ng kotse. Wala ng choice si Sef but to hit on the breaks.

Agad bumaba ang dalaga at naglakad ito... Oo, tama, mas maigi pang maglakad kesa naka-kotse’t kasama si Sef. At least, she’s doing his aunt a favour... at pati na din si Sef for that matter.

Sef hurriedly went down as well.“Ellie!!” He called angrily, nakatayo pa din siya sa gilid ng pinto. “Get back here! Seriously, you’re going to walk all the way home?” He scoffed with sarcasm. Pero patuloy pa din si Ellie sa paglalakad na kala mo walang naririnig.

Silent treatment...

“Dammit!!” He cursed under his breath, slamming the car door. “Huh. At ikaw pa ngayon tong may balak magalit? The least thing you can do is to say THANK YOU after I saved your @ss back there!!”

Napatigil si Ellie sa paglalakad, she whirled around, yung muka niya hindi maipinta sa galit... “Uh, so IKAW lang ba ang may KARAPATANG magalit?? Alam mo, sa susunod na magpaka knight-in-a-shining-armor ka, siguraduhin mong hindi ka MAGSISISI matapos mong sagipin yung tao!!” With that she continued to walk again.

“Magsisisi?” Sef repeated, clueless. “Y-you think I was...” He gave a sigh of annoyance. “Ako nagsisisi sa pagsagip sayo? Is that what you think?”He shook his head, looking all pissed off. “You know what? Forget it!! Ang problema kasi sayo you just do whatever you feel like doing, think whatever you feel like thinking without considering the consequences... kaya pati pag-talon sa lawa, napag-tripan mo!!”

Ellie was turning red in fury. Her eyes narrowed when she turned to face him again. “Miguel Josef Uy Monteverde... sinasabi ko sayo MANYAKIN MO NA KO WAG MO LANG AKONG PAGBIBINTANGAN!!” She stopped in her tracks. “Hindi ako sinungaling. Kapag sinabi kong tinulak ako ni Chowy, tinulak ako ni Chowy!!”

“Fine. Now will you just get back in the car?”

Hindi na sumagot si Ellie as she stubbornly continued with her walking. Hindi siya pwedeng sumakay ulit... ngayon pa namumuo na yung luha sa mata niya?? Hindi niya pingarap na magpakita ng kahinaan sa kahit kanino... lalo na syempre kay Sef!! Naiinis na siya, nagagalit, naiimbyerna... lahat-lahat na!! Para siyang basong malapit ng umapaw ang laman... hindi na niya ma-contain... at hindi niya alam kung BAKIT SIYA NAGKAKAGANITO!! Ito pala mahirap sa lahat... yung di mo naiintindihan ang sarili mo...

“Okay. If that’s what you want!!” Sef shouted at sumakay na ito sa loob ng sasakyan. She heard him shut the car door at umandar na ito.

Ayan, tama... IWAN NIYA KO!!

To the heavens up above,
I pray to God that our destiny is love

Sef was determined to leave... pumapanik na sa ulo niya ang galit. He went in the car at pinaandar ito. Bahala nga siya... Dire-diretso lang siya and drove pass her, inover-take na niya ang dalaga... He was already a good distance away when he noticed Ellie on his rear mirror. How can she possibly think na nagsisisi ako sa pagsagip sakanya?? He slowed down his pace, his eyes still on the mirror watching her. Nakayukong naglalakad lang ang dalaga, like a small little girl helplessly defeated. “Darn. That does it...” Sef angrily muttered to himself...

Miguel Josef Uy Monteverde stepped out the car, umaandar pa nga yung makina ee... at dire-diretso lang siya sa paglalakad papunta sa dalaga.

Napatigil si Ellie when she noticed him walking towards her... she caught his gaze and made her heartbeat race wildly. His face was still serious... Sef looked like a man on a mission.

Ellie stood in place, unable to move... as if Sef’s eyes casted an intricate spell on her...

Their eyes were glued together...

And for some unexplainable reason... as if by some miracle the angels intervened... and there at that moment, Cupid was watching...

Miguel Josef Uy Monteverde kissed her right there and then.

My heart was skipping faster and faster habang papalapit siya ng papalapit. Para sakin, he was like an angry bull charging his horns towards me. Sa totoo lang, I had the impulse to make a run for it. But before I knew it, Miguel Josef Uy Monteverde had his hand against the nape of my neck, holding my head still for a… mind-blowing, heart-stopping, breathe-taking kiss…

OH I’M IN DEEP SHEET!!

Are you guys familiar with the saying, butterflies in your stomach?? In my case… parang hindi lang mga paru-paro ang lumilipad sa sikmura ko… parang pati mga paniki at pambansang ibon kasama sa flying session.

Sef’s hold against my neck was firm as if he has no intention of letting me resist… surprisingly, his lips were gentle against mine… He tasted like sweet wine, enchanting and intoxicating… and shockingly, I liked it just fine.

WWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!! LIKING IT?? HUWAT?? WAS IT REALLY ME TALKING?? Or this kiss was just clouding my reason??

Oh no no no no no…

ANO KA BA ELE— ELE—???

Ok. Pati nga ata pangalan ko nakalimutan ko na… kahit yung inis ko, yung pagiging BV ko… lahat yun parang nabura… kung alam ko lang na ito ang gamot, sana kanina ko pa ginawa. Hahahaha.

When our lips finally parted… pareho kaming parang naglalaro ng dodging ball, we couldn’t look each other in the eye… My face was all flustered at pakiramdam ko dahan-dahan akong nagiging jellyace. I almost thought Sef was blushing too, sayang nga lang medyo madilim kaya di ako sigurado.

Then Sef suddenly smiled. Oo, for the first time after the incident in the lake, parang ngayon na lang siya ulit ngumiti sakin. Yung ngiting parang… WALA LANG SA KANYA. Like kissing me was just something… NORMAL.Boy, as easy as pie.

I felt downright STUPID for thinking for a moment that… there was something about that… kiss. Guess I was the only one who felt it. No, no, no maybe I was just IMAGINING things. Yeah. That must be it. Wag kang mag-feeling Ellie, hindi ka si Anne Curtis, at mas lalong hindi ka si Angelina Jolie… IT DIDN’T MEAN ANYTHING… Just like the first time he kissed you. NOTHING.

Why of course… si Bea nga nun didn’t have much trouble about kissing Sef. Para bang HOBBY na ito ni Sef… he could kiss a total stranger without hesitating… tulad nung ginawa niya sakin nun sa Eastwood. Kaya naman ELEONOR MALICSI DIMACULANGAN… do not ever think for a second that this means something to him!!

Oh yeah, now we’re talking… IKAW NA NGA SI ELLIE!! NAGBALIK KA NA!! Siguro nga, but not completely. Well at least not yet. Ee kasi… Nung sinabi ni Sef na, “Will you now get back in the car?” Sumunod naman daw agad ako!!

C-cupid?? C’mon… I am no romantic. Pramis! Definitely, most definitely, there are NO princesses & princes in my own definition of love. I am no believer of fairytales and all that crap. Para sakin, ang love darating at darating yan. Yeah, darating siya… for hopeless romantics, they would probably call HIM, my own Romeo and for vampire lovers, my own Edward Cullen, and for wizard geeks, my own Harry Potter, pero sa mga adik sa pinoy movies, my own POPOY. Oha, talagang naisingit ko pa si John Lloyd Cruz!! Haha.

Anyway, to make my point simpler, hindi naman kasi dapat hinahanap ang love, kusang darating yan… at the right time, at the right place, with the right person!!

Well… that was what I believed in… or better yet, what I wanted to believe in.

Hmmm, right place ba yung BOY’S CR sa MUP?? That’s where I’ve met Sef for the first time.

Right timing ba? Ee napo-potchi pa nga ako nun. Akala ko pa nga multo siya…

Now the question is… right person ba?? AW. BULLSHEET!!

“Ellie…” Sef’s voice snapped me out of my reverie. Nasa tapat na pala kami ng bahay ko. With all these thoughts swirling around my head?? Para kong zombie na bumaba ng sasakyan niya. Oo, zombie… hindi ako sanay na ganito ang iniisip ko… I’m actually having a conversation with myself… about… CUPID??

Namumutla ako, and every part of my body was shaking like hell… malalamig na pawis ang tumatagaktak sakin, given the fact na naka aircon kami. Sanay ako na PAGKAIN, PAGKAIN, AT PERA ang iniisip… at hindi mga ganitong klaseng bagay…

“Uh, Ellie…” But I was too preoccupied to even bother as to what Sef has to say. “Good night.” He smiled yet again. I nervously nodded and slammed the door shut.

Napalunok ako as I watched the car disappear in the corner… & I continued being a ZOMBIE kahit sa pagpasok ko ng bahay. Nanginginig pa din buong katawan ko.

Nakapatay ang ilaw sa salas pero bukas ang TV. Nanunuod mag-isa si AJ ng horror movie na Silent Hill. Tahimik lang akong nakatayo sa likod niya, he didn’t look up. Hindi niya siguro ako namalayan. But suddenly… ng dahan-dahang lumingon sakin si AJ biglang napa sigaw ang bruha.

“HUDAS, BARABAS ELLIE!!” Nabulalas ni AJ ng binuksan na niya yung ilaw. “Halos ma-tae ako sa takot sayo aa? Nu ba yang itsura mo?”

Hindi ko na kailangan tumingin pa sa salamin. For I knew, color must have drained out of my face. I was pale as a ghost.

Dios ko!! Ngayon lang ako nakaramdam ng ganito… oo, as in sa tanan ng buhay ko… NGAYON LANG!!! I AM SCARED AS HELL!! More terrified than I have ever been in my life. Ito na… what I’ve been dreading to happen… Am I really experiencing it now? Did I really catch the incurable virus – yung sakit ng mga baliw na tao? That… love?

Napalunok ako when the realization that I am… I am… f-falling… HIT ME HARD. My heart jumped.

Seryoso Ellie? As in? Talaga?? For real?

I imagined hearing the loud sirens of police cars. WEEE-YONG. WEEE-YONG. WEE-YONG. That kind of alarm that make your heart race cause you know something dreadful just happened.

RED ALERT!! RED ALERT!!

Ow, Lord, my God, my Creator, my All… sana po binigyan niyo man lang ako ng kahit konting warning… is there any guide book that goes with it? Wala bang instruction manual na nabibili sa Divisoria?? O kaya sa Quiapo??

“AJ…” Nangingig yung boses ko when I mentioned his name. “Tulungan mo ko!!”

“Bakit?” AJ asked, sounding worried already. “Nag LBM ka nanaman ano? Minsan iniisip ko, kung san gawa yang sikmura mo ee.”

I swallowed hard. I wasn’t hearing him. “H-hindi pwede toh AJ!! TULUNGAN MO KO!!” I kept pulling his arm.“AJ!!” I whined. “AJ… I-in love ata ako ee…”

AJ’s eyes darkened sabay batok sakin. “BALBAL KA!! AKALA KO NAKAPATA—” His eyes then widened dramatically.“OH BETCHA BY GOLLY WOW!! KAY SEF?” He then excitedly pulled me down the sofa. Yung ngiti niya abot tenga.

I’m still in a state of shock. Parang itong recent realization ko about… Sef… was like hearing the news na buntis si Vice Ganda at si John Lloyd Cruz daw ang ama!! WWAAAAAH!! Kaya naman HINDI TALAGA PWEDE TOH!!!

“Cuz, ano vah? Nakakaloka ka!! Hindi nakakamatay yan!! Natural lang yan!!”

“AJ. Hindi talaga pwede toh!! Kelangan tulungan mo ko… Hindi mo kilala si Sef. Kelangan matigil agad toh!!”

Nagbuntong hininga si AJ. “Cuz, ang love hindi yan parang computer na basta pwede mo na lang i-shut down, hindi yan parang alikabok na pag hinipan mo magva-vanish na lang basta into thin air… wala yang switch, wala yang on and off button!! Hindi ba yan tinuturo sa inyo sa Matute? My gaaad!!”

Napatingin ako sakanya. Bakit kaya ang mga bakla maraming alam sa mga ganitong bagay?? Oo, alam kong may point si AJ sa sinabi niyang yun. Pero baka nakakalimutan niya… If there’s a will, there’s always a way!!

“AJ naman… Tulungan mo na ko oh.”

“Pasaway talaga ang lahi mo nuh?”

“Sayang, may ibibigay pa nman akong ka-date sayo… kapag natulungan mo ko.”

“Ay!! Naalala ko na Cuz… meron palang secret technique para jan sa prublema mo!!”

I almost laughed. “Talaga? Ano?”

“Basta!” Tumaas ang kilay ni AJ tapos bigla siyang ngumiti… it was an evil grin. Napalunok ako. Hindi ko kaya pagsisihan toh?? “Akong bahala sayo!!”

OH NO!!!

I think I just got myself a deal with the devil.
