I rolled on my stomach to make a better position, facing my laptop.

Alexandra Valdez: I’m not in a good mood today. My head aches.

Baron Lloyd: Why? Have you taken meds? You should see a doctor.

Alexandra Valdez: Don’t be paranoid. It’s just a headache. How’s your day?

“Alex!” I looked up to see Casey standing on the doorway with her arms crossed over her chest. She rolled her eyes and sighed. She walked over to me but I knew her too much. She was the nosiest best friend I know. Well, not to mention she’s the only one I have.

“What?” I tried to block the screen from her view as her neck was strained to peek over me.

“Alex… you’re still chatting with that ‘best friend’ of yours?” She didn’t hide the bout of sarcasm in her voice as she emitted another exaggerated sigh. “How can you befriend somebody who you haven’t seen, haven’t talked to personally or… what if he’s a psycho? He’s married? He’s…”

“Case…” I gritted my teeth in frustration. “It’s not as if I love him. It’s not as if I’m going to marry him.. and…” I wriggled one finger in her nose. “I’m not that kind to meet up with… with!” I screamed at her face. I glared at her.

“Alex, I tolerated you for a few months after…” She stopped as she saw my downcast glance. “Okay. It’s been a year. But it’s silly. Don’t revolve your world around a non-existent stranger. Psychologically speaking, that… that man had been your diversion from your misery.”

“He’s existing…” I whispered hesitantly. Somehow I knew how true her words are.

“Anyway, what you need is a vacation trip!” She jumped on the bed as she hugged me and wagged two tickets in my face. My gasp turned into a big O. “Caribbean Island?” I arched my eyebrow. My eyes blinked in suspicion as she avoided my gaze.

“It’s time you meet your mother Alex. And leave the past behind…” She tapped my shoulder just as I heard the buzz from my yahoo messenger.

Baron Lloyd: Are you okay?

Baron Lloyd: Hey…

I smiled sadly and I promised myself for the last time. This would be over.

Alexandra Valdez: Yes. I am. And I’m going away… for good.

I nibbled the tip of my pen absentmindedly as I kept reading the words in my mind.

She had gone offline. A few months before, my brother asked me to e-mail a document to his officemate. I had gotten the wrong address. A mistake that started a silly friendship online. I chuckled humorlessly on my swivel chair. Not that I took it seriously… well, not really. But why did it feel so depressing just now?

“Goodbye Alex…” I whispered just as I typed the last words, shutting the computer in front of me. I closed my eyes for a few minutes when two arms encircled around my chest in a sweet, suffocating embrace.

“Mr. Lloyd Baron St. Claire’s whispering to himself huh, who’s Alex?” She kissed me on the cheek and smiled wanly in front of me. I cupped her slackening cheek; she was in her chemo sessions for a year now.

“Just someone…” I shook my head. “You shouldn’t have gone here alone. Where’s Yvette? She should have been with you.” I scowled, trying to sound the reprimanding husband. But as usual, Nina just smiled her way and everything would be great.

“My private nurse also needs a day off. She’s not a robot unlike someone here. Lloyd… you’ve been the best person I’ve had in the world. Don’t you think it’s time you have something for yourself? A gift perhaps?” She pouted prettily but the sadness in her eyes wasn’t lost on me.

“Nina… what ar—” I didn’t like the gleam surfacing in her eyes. She was cooking something fishy.

“Let’s have a vacation!” She wagged our passports and hooted a loud laugh. “To Caribbean Island!”

My brows creased at that. “I can’t. We can’t. How about your session? You’re due to—”

“Yvette told me about a great neurosurgeon residing there. We’re going to find her. Pretty please?” She put her palms together just like in a prayer. I sighed as she always gets her wicked way with me.

“Caribbean it is. I already know the doctor; I thought we could send her here. She is… Dr. Aleja Valdez.”


Sorry if the update is lame. That's stored in my files for a few days now. Hay, I wish I didn't have a prelims on Eco tomorrow.

Prologue: Aww...saklap naman nun. Bakit hindi pa nga nila nauumpisahan, naggiveup na kaagad tong si Alex. Don't you think mas maganda kung you try all the possiblities in this world? Wala naman mawawala eh. Minsan lang mangyari yung nagmahal ka at mahal ka din ng taong mahal mo. You're very lucky, girl! 

Chappie 0: OH?! Married na tong si Lloyd??? Di ko expected yun ah. Wawa naman nung wifey niya. Cancer is a very treacherous illness. 

Chappie 1: TH?! Parehas sila magbabakasyon sa Carribean island? It only means na may chance magkita sila doon. Ooohhhh..... excited na ako!!!!
