CHAPTER ONE


I sat at the far end corner of the room hoping not to be spotted by Yoon Eun Hee. That girl really annoys me. Gawin daw bang favorite hobby ang tumabi sakin just to bother me with the same questions? How to do this certain Math equation, how to solve this Chemistry formula.. The list goes on.. And it took a lot of explaining para lang maintindihan niya. Like she wasn't taking me seriously. Parang nanggagago lang. I don't even know why she was allowed to belong in our class. When somebody belongs to class A, that means may ibubuga ka. You have something to brag about not just your face or your money. Alam kong alam niyo na kung anu yun. And Yoon Hee isn't one of those! She almost failed all her subjects last year just because she loves going to parties better than staying home to read some of her notes. She loves to flirt with those guys she sees in clubs. She loves the limelight. Loves to be called names. Nakakamatay daw ang insecurity, sabi niya noon. Anu bang motto sa buhay meron siya?

I stopped thinking to myrelf as old and new faces began to arrive. Nobody sat beside me. Nobody wanted. Nobody did. Sino ba namang gugustuhing tumabi sa isang tulad ko? None. Except maybe for Yoon Hee na ayoko namang katabi. Mas gugustuhin ko pang mag-isa kesa tabihan at kausapin yun. My ideal seatmate would be someone na kapareho ko. Yung marami kaming similarities.

First subject: Physics. Wala si Yoon Hee. Oh. Maybe her friends made her realize na wala namang maidudulot sakanya ang ipagsiksikan ang sarili niya sa class A. I went back reading my book.

Physics: Definition of Physics

I close the book shut. Even a grade six student could answer that question. Padefine ng padefine! Puro memorize! Can't we learn anything by heart? In Yoon Hee's case, NO.

Stop thinking about Yoon Hee, I scolded myself.

0ur subject teacher arrived. Wala padin siya. Wow, mukhang wala na nga talaga siya. She was never punctual but she was never late. At last, magkakaroon din pala ng time na lulubayan niya ang pagiging trying hard niya. My life never became quiet. Until now. This is the best day of my life, I guess. No seatmates. Just me. And no Yoon Hee. I smiled to myself.
Sana ganito nalang palagi.

Nagsimula nang magtanong ang teacher namin. Define physics nanaman. Buhaaaay. :| Tanong elementary. Nagtawag tawag siya ng mga kaklase kong nakayuko, yung mga obvious na ayaw matawag at yung mga palingon-lingon sa ibang direksyon. Pathetic. Idedefine lang ang physics-

"Goodmorning maam. I'm sorry, I'm late."

0ur teacher smiled and nodded. Pumasok na yung estudyante. Bago panigurado to. But I like her. Those wide-rimmed glasses with thick black border caught my eye. May bangs, may braces, at naka-curl ang buhok. She reminded me of Betty La Fea, except that, she was a lot prettier.
She wore the school uniform. Her skirt cascaded down her knees. Total geeky get up! Uy, mukhang makakasundo ko to. Mukhang matalino.

She sat down next to me.

"Hello Hyeon Su. Kamusta?"

Hyeon Su? Tinawag niya kong Hyeon Su? Papano niya nalaman ang pangalan ko?

I looked at her intently. Matagal. Sobrang tagal na halos matunaw na siya. Damn. She looked familiar. No. She really is familiar.
Where is her micro mini skirts? Her bright pink pointed heels? Her tube top? Her glossy blood red lips? Her rainbow colored nails? My eyes are playing with me, don't they?
