Band: Linkin Park
« on: December 25, 2009, 07:15:47 pm »

Linkin Park is an American rock band from Agoura Hills, California. Formed in 1996, the band has sold more than 50 million albums and won two Grammy Awards. It achieved mainstream success with its debut album, Hybrid Theory, which was certified Diamond by the RIAA in 2005. Its following studio album, Meteora, continued the band's success, topping the Billboard 200’s album charts in 2003, and was followed by extensive touring and charity work around the world. In 2003, MTV2 named Linkin Park the sixth greatest band of the music video era and the third best of the new millennium behind Oasis and Coldplay.

Having adapted the nu metal and rap rock genres to a radio-friendly yet densely-layered style in Hybrid Theory and Meteora, the band explored other genres in their next studio album, Minutes to Midnight. The album topped the Billboard charts and had the third best debut week of any album that year. They have also collaborated with several other artists, most notably with rapper Jay-Z in their mashup album Collision Course, and many others on Reanimation.[9] They are the only musical act in the world that formed after the millennium to have sold over 50 million records worldwide.

Haha, of course. I grew up listening to Linkin Park. They got me into rock music.
Imo, I like how they don't really stick to one genre. There's like rap and harcore, and a bit of emo-core I think.
And there are a ton of new bands out there, like say The Killers could be the new Joy Division, but no one can really replace Linkin Park. Yet. :)

THE KILLERS! Love them. Can't stop listening to All These Things That I've Done and Human;D And yes... Linkin Park was the first rock band I loved.

nah, no one will replace LP in my heart ;D haha .. hindi ko alam yang Joy Division but I know The Killers and they are a good band too, :)

Linkin Park was ok during its time, but its starting to lose its luster as one of the best bands of its genre.

Though, they have a long way to go to match the massive fanbase of the legends of true metal

Slipknot - Still one of the best, for many years running, still proud of their maggots (proud fans call themselves this). Good music to listen to if you wanna listen to something a little harder than normal emo rock bands

Favorite songs: Before I forget, Wait and Bleed, Sulfur, Spit it out, All hope is gone, Psychosocial

Black Sabbath & Ozzy Osbourne - Godfather of Rock, all bands pay their respects to the legend of Ozzy, who was proclaimed as the "Prince of Darkness"

Fave songs - Crazy Train, I dont wanna stop

Slayer - Without a doubt one of the best heavy metal bands if not the best. They are still consistently at the top for more than 25 years running. A brief warning though, their band's lyrics, may contain some suggestive language & satanic tendencies. This can be explained by the songs that their guitarist wrote, Kerry King, who was rumored to be a member of the "Church of Satan"

Fave Songs - Cult
You shall no longer take things at second or third hand nor look through the eyes of the dead, nor feed on the spectres in books
You shall not look through my eyes either nor take things from me
You shall listen to all sides and filter them from yourself

@Hanzo23 Those are great music references and all, but you might want to post something Linkin Park related. :) This is a Linkin Park forum, after all.

By "lose its luster", I guess we could say Linkin Park matured. There are a lot less angst-ridden lyrics now. :P

I admit to liking the first album better, because they were experimenting a lot more.

@Ran1441 I'm glad you've heard of them. :) I found out the Killers did a cover of JD's Shadowplay.

@farzymae They are a great band. I can't really tell which I like better, they're very different. :)

Yes, for me they were a great band when they sticked to a style that crosses multiple genres. As of recently, I cant really say they have performed well to the level of expectations.

And I was citing examples of what could linkin park's potential could be if they stayed to become the pioneer of their own genre. Thats how the greats are truly respected. You dont expect a quick turnaround like what Vanilla Ice did (what an embarassment) and hope to stay on top. Looking at the examples that I gave above, they stayed on the top of their game, they stuck to their genre of music, and they gained the respect of millions. Dont get me wrong, Linkin has a solid fan-base, I doubt that they will agree to front for the bands above, but listening to their recent music, I cant help but wonder what happened to the linkin then and the linkin now.

You'll be surprised how many people can actually relate to "Angst-ridden" songs that linkin park did. Difficult times do create some of the greatest songs.  If they ever return to the true roots of linkin park, the way there were really broke to the scene, then they might just land a gig to play on shows like "Revolver's Golden God awards."

I feel something lacking in Minutes To Midnight. And New Divide was a great song with some of the best guitar riffs I know of, but it still can't hold a candle to In The End.

I feel like In The End is like THE Linkin Park Song. :P It's very distinct. Just those first few piano notes and you know.

@Hanzo Those angst-ridden songs, that's why they had so many fans.  ;D I actually know of a few people who made up problems just so they could say that was their song.

I think we can agree that they've lost their X-factor. :P

LOL at making up problems  ;D but yeah, somehow somewhere they lost their touch and mellowed out.

I have the four albums of The Killers. And I love Shadowplay.

Have you watched the 2007 film 'Control'? It's a movie about Ian Curtis and Sam Riley played him. Very sad and heartbreaking movie...  :(
