1: Resilience
[/b]
A sea of clouds joined with rumbling thunder started to take over the sky. The convertible ran at a reasonable speed; well, there are just a few cars around. In my mind, images of the place I used to live in flashed. A wave of nostalgia crept in me. What a hellish life of mine.
I want to go back to the city. The high-rise buildings symbolize security on my side. I have lived with those walls for the past 17 years, and those inanimate objects sheltered me from the harsh treatment of the society. Yes, I am the daughter of well-known business tycoons. I spend more than twice the usual middle-class families’ monthly budget every month. I study at a prestigious school. I am the princess among the royalties surrounding me; the cream of the crop; the brightest star.
Yet, I never felt fulfillment. The familial and social status meant nothing. The recognition and fame couldn’t be compared to that feeling of being at home. My life, in short, is empty.
That’s the reason why my parents sent me to this place. I’m not really sure where they’re sending me at this nowhere. Don’t they understand? I want to stay where I’m familiar. I want to stay at our place, at the penthouse, where I could do whatever I want. Now, I’m all alone.
From the stained windows, I saw a formation of humongous trees. There are flowers in full bloom in front of it. It is like entering some fairytale. I am impressed. If I’m going to stay somewhere, that should be worth staying at. I want to stay somewhere simple yet elegant.
I redirected my eyes in front of me. A two story country house stood a few meters away from where I’m sitting. The porch is decorated with a few plants, and a swing near the house itself. The sight caught my breath away. WOW. There is a man waiting at the steps. He looks like he’s in his 40’s. I smiled at the person.
“Ma’am, we’re here.” The driver said. Seems like this will be interesting.

“Darling, you look good. It’s been too long. How have you been?” Pop Joe tackled me to a bear hug when I ran on his arms. I was more than thrilled to stay with the greatest storyteller in my life.
Joe Pop, or simply Pop, is my dad’s uncle. He’s the youngest among my grandfathers. He used to stay in the city too, and was the heir of one of our family’s companies. Despite the privilege of living the dream of every person in life, he chose this – country life, wherein rumors are out of question. He could be anything he wants to be.
“I’m fine. Same rotting girl since the last time you’ve visited me. Can’t you believe it? They’re leaving me again for some stupid business proposal. I’m so not going to accept the inheritance of that company.” I groaned, hugging myself as cool breeze whispered. Pop smiled and took my things.
The double doors opened, and I entered this haven I’m about to stay at for the net few weeks. Yes, haven. Where Pop is, everything is fine. I know he won’t do anything I would be irritated to. I plopped at the couch and closed my eyes. Change in environment exhausts me.
Sleep isn’t coming for me, but I kept my eyes shut. Unfortunately, my stomach started to rumble. I tried to sit down, but I bumped into someone’s head.
“Uhh. Watch—“ My mouth failed to process words out of my mouth because at this very moment, my face was merely a centimeter away from the owner of those sapphire blue eyes.
