2: Mirrors
Sapphire eyes distracted my vision. Those eyes, deep and mesmerizing, are really familiar. I’m sure that I’ve seen them before. I don’t know when that ‘before’ is. Not last month, or last year, or when I’m younger. I considered the fact that I might’ve seen the owner of those eyes when he [I’m so sure it’s a boy] was younger.
Or maybe because our eyes are of the same color, the same shape, the same depth. Looking in those sapphire orbs is like looking at my own eyes. As if I’m facing a mirror. They say that our eyes are windows to our souls, then..
Before I could process the things I’ve come up, footsteps rang in my ears.
“Hey kiddo! Hold your horses! Don’t harass Liz here, she just came. Get your hands off here or I swear to God, you’ll never get to see tomorrow.” The guy rose from his position -- hovering over my body. I took a deep breath. I was still surprised by what happened.
“I’m sorry, Joe. I thought she’s an intruder, so I decided to surprise her. It’s my first time to see her around. You can’t blame me if I ac tlike that.” A smooth, masculine voice invaded my line of thoughts. I would be offended if not for that voice. Have I met this guy before? Everything about him is familiar. Is there something I won’t recognize about him?
I sneaked a peek to both men. The guy was facing with his face right above mine. His light brown hair was meticulously combed. His flawless face was defined and mind-boggling. He’s wearing a black suit paired with black slacks and designer shoes. What’s with the clothes?
“Oh then. Introduce yourself to her. She’s waiting.” Pop gave him a smug smile before going upstairs. The guy looked at me now. I stared at him intently, waiting for an explanation. I saw his thin scarlet lips turn to a curve.
“I’m sorry for my rudeness. I’m not really updated on the arrival of such as beautiful maiden as you are.” He offered a hand and pulled me up from my seat. My legs were wobbling a bit. Can this man just stop sugar-coating his words?
“I’m sorry we started at the wrong foot. I’m Andrew. Andrew McKnight. And you are?” My eyes narrowed a bit with suspicion. He looked innocent enough to pass for someone ignorant, but I’m sure he’s something more.
“Elizabeth Hopkins, but I prefer to be called Liz.” I shook hands with him. An unexpected jolt caused me to tighten my grip in his hand. He laughed at bit.
“I see you find it comfortable to hold my hand. I hope you keep on doing that.” He smirked a little. My eyes widened as I pulled my hand off his. I glared at him.
“I’m sorry to disappoint you, but I don’t like holding hands with strangers.” Now it’s my turn to smirk. I brushed the hair resting on my shoulder, took my hand-carry, and started to walk to the stairs. Suddenly, hands of steel caught my hands. Again, the spark surprised me. Warm breath fanned on my barren neck. I gulped and shut my eyes out of irritation.
“I won’t be a stranger to you in the near future.” Then that Andrew / idiot walked out of the door.
